This case has been filed in a lower court against two directors of sports management company Arka Sports. Dhoni’s advocate Dayanand Singh from Vidhi Associates, a Patna-based law firm, said that he has filed a criminal case under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code against Arka Sports directors Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Biswas in a competent court in Ranchi on Dhoni’s behalf. Singh said that the accused had approached Dhoni in 2017 to set up cricket academies in India and abroad. He said that initially it was agreed that the cricketer would get the full franchise fee and the profit would be divided between Dhoni and the partners on 70:30 basis.
He said that, the partners started setting up the academy without Dhoni’s knowledge and did not make any payment. He said that the authorization letter provided to him was canceled on August 15, 2021. According to Dhoni’s lawyer, despite this, the partners continued to set up a cricket academy and sports complex in Dhoni’s name without sharing any money or information with him.
According to Dhoni’s lawyer, legal notices were given to the partners twice for violating the terms of the agreement. Singh claimed that the partners opened academies at eight to ten places and took the money, causing a loss of Rs 16 crore to Dhoni.
Singh said that the criminal case was filed before the First Class Judicial Magistrate in Ranchi on October 27, 2023. Singh said that on Friday, Dhoni’s authorized person Seemant Lohani recorded his statement before the magistrate.
