All-Party Meet on Pahalgam Attack: Govt admits lapse

All-Party Meet on Pahalgam Attack: The central government on Thursday admitted that there was a security lapse in the Pahalgam attack. After the all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that officials of the IB and Home Ministry informed the opposition leaders about the security lapse in the meeting. During this, the opposition said that they are with the government. Opposition MPs demanded the destruction of terrorist camps. They said that the government should take strict steps against terrorism.

After the all-party meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that the government has full support for every action. The all-party meeting lasted for two hours. In the meeting, two minutes of silence was observed for the peace of the souls of those killed in the Pahalgam attack.

On April 22, terrorists killed 26 tourists in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. One of them was a Nepali citizen. More than 10 people were injured.

Pahalgam attack: 11 big updates of the day

1- Rahul Gandhi will visit Anantnag in Kashmir on Friday. He will meet the people injured in the attack there.

2- Debashish Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, has sent a letter to Pakistan informing that the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 has been suspended with immediate effect.

3- India tested the missile from INS Surat warship on Thursday afternoon. The testing was successful. The surface-to-sea attack was successfully tested.

4- The Air Force has started the war exercise. It has been named ‘Agvaan’. Two Rafale squadrons from Ambala (Haryana) and Hashimara (West Bengal) will take part in it.

5- The Ministry of External Affairs called ambassadors of many countries including Germany and Japan. Information about the Pahalgam attack was given in the meeting.

6- Russian media Russia Today (RT) has claimed that looking at the current situation, India is going to do something big.

7- Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met President Draupadi Murmu and briefed her on the Pahalgam attack.

8- After the Indian government announced the closure of the Attari border, Pakistani citizens who had come to India on visa started returning from the Attari check post in Punjab.

9- The central government has banned the Pakistan government’s X handle in India.

10- The US State Department has issued an advisory advising its citizens not to visit Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam attack: What Happened at the All-Party Meeting?

In a two-hour-long high-stakes all-party meeting, the Centre admitted to security lapses during the Pahalgam incident. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that IB and Home Ministry officials briefed the opposition leaders about intelligence and operational gaps.

However, the political tone was unanimous — unity against terror. Rahul Gandhi said, “The Centre has our full support for every action taken in response to this attack.”

Leaders across party lines called for:

  • Destruction of terror camps in Pakistan
  • Zero tolerance against cross-border terrorism
  • Full diplomatic and economic retaliation

A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the victim of Pahalgam attack.

Pahalgam attack: Government 5 Decisions

1st DecisionSuspension of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty to stop Pakistan’s cross-border terror support.
2nd DecisionImmediate closure of the Attari-Wagah check post. People who had crossed with valid documents earlier have been asked to return before May 1.
3rd DecisionCancellation of all SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas for Pakistani nationals. Those in India must exit within 48 hours.
4th DecisionPakistani defence advisors in Delhi declared ‘persona non grata’ and given 7 days to leave. Indian defence officials from Islamabad to be recalled immediately.
5th DecisionReduction in diplomatic staff strength at both embassies from 55 to 30. The decision will come into effect from May 1, 2025.

Pahalgam attack: India Responds Militarily Too

Alongside diplomatic retaliation, India has also taken military countermeasures:

  • Successfully test-fired a surface-to-sea missile from warship INS Surat.
  • Initiated a large-scale Air Force exercise “Agvaan”, involving Rafale jets from Ambala and Hashimara.
  • NSA Ajit Doval and MEA S. Jaishankar briefed President Droupadi Murmu.
  • Foreign envoys from countries like Germany and Japan were summoned and briefed.

Pahalgam attack: Global Reactions and Speculations

  • Russian media RT News hinted that “India is planning something big” in retaliation.
  • The US State Department issued a travel advisory asking citizens to avoid Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Meanwhile, in Srinagar, local shopkeepers held protests waving black flags.

Pahalgam attack: Terrorism Has a Cost

The Indian government’s message is clear:
“We are done with dialogue for the sake of diplomacy. Terror has a cost — and Pakistan will pay it.”
With elections around the corner and public sentiment inflamed, these steps are not just about foreign policy — they are about national unity, security, and honour.
