Rajya Sabha Election 2024: The tenure of 56 members of Rajya Sabha from 15 states is ending in April. Elections for these seats are to be held on 27 February. The last date to apply for candidates of every party is 15 February. In such a situation, all the parties have announced the names of their candidates. However, there is sure to be a change in this by February 15. Here we are telling which parties have announced the names of Rajya Sabha candidates so far and how the elections will be held.

BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party)

BJP has the ability to send the maximum number of MPs to the Rajya Sabha, has released its candidates for most of the seats. There are seven candidates from Uttar Pradesh, which include former Congress minister RPN Singh, Sudhanshu Trivedi, Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, Sadhna Singh, Apmarpal Maurya, Sangeeta Balwant, Naveen Jain. Apart from this, Bihar (Bhim Singh, Dharamsheela Gupta), Chhattisgarh (Raja Devendra Pratap Singh), Haryana (Subhash Barla), Karnataka (Narayan Krishnasa Bhandge), Uttarakhand (Mahendra Bhatt), West Bengal (Shamik Bhattacharya), Gujarat (JP Nadda, Govindbhai Dholakia, Mayanbhai Nayak, Jaswant Singh Parmar), Maharashtra (Ashok Chavan, Medha Kulkarna, Ajit Gopchhade), Odisha (Ashwini Vaishnav), Madhya Pradesh (L Murugan), Rajasthan (Chunnilal Gyarsiya, Madan Rathore) are also Rajya Sabha MP candidates. Has been announced. However, BJP is yet to announce the names of many other candidates. Union Ministers Rajiv Chandrashekhar from Karnataka and Anil Baluni from Uttarakhand have not got tickets this time.

Congress 

Congress has announced its candidates on 4 seats. Sonia Gandhi from Rajasthan, Akhilesh Prasad from Bihar, Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Himachal Pradesh and Chandrakant Handor from Maharashtra will go to Rajya Sabha.

Trinamool Congress

Trinamool Congress has announced the names of its four candidates for Rajya Sabha. This includes journalist Sagarika Ghosh, leader Sushmita Dev, Nadimul Haq.

Samajwadi Party

Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party has made Alok Ranjan its Rajya Sabha candidate along with Jaya Bachchan and Ramjilal Suman.

Janata Dal (United)

Nitish Kumar has chosen his favorite Sanjay Jha as his candidate.

Biju Janata Dal

Debashish Samantre and Subhashish Kunita have got tickets from Biju Janata Dal.

YSR Congress

YSR Congress has made YV Subba Reddy, G Babu Rao and M Raghunanda Reddy its Rajya Sabha candidates.

What is the current situation?

The tenure of a Rajya Sabha MP is six years and every two years elections are held for MPs from 33 percent of the states. At present there are total 245 members in Rajya Sabha. Of these, 233 members represent all the states and union territories (Delhi, Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir). Whereas, 12 members are nominated by the President. This time the last date for nomination for members is 15th February. Voting for Rajya Sabha members will take place on February 27 between 9 am and 4 pm. The results will be announced only after the voting is over.
