Sandeshkhali Scandle Shajahan Sheikh News: On the orders of the Calcutta High Court, when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team went to the CID office to pick up Sandeshkhali accused Shahjahan Sheikh, it had to return empty handed. It is being told that CID has refused to give custody of Sheikh citing the case in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has temporarily attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 12.78 crore under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) 2002 in the ongoing investigation against Shahjahan Shaikh and others in Kolkata.

Let us tell you that the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered to hand over the investigation of the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court also directed that the custody of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Shaikh, arrested by the West Bengal Police on February 29 in connection with the attack, be handed over to the central agency. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government had approached the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court had refused to hear the urgent petition of the Bengal government in this matter. The court had asked the Bengal government to approach the Registrar in this matter.
What order did the High Court give?
Chief Justice T.S. The division bench headed by Shivajnanam directed that the time given to comply with the instructions was till 4.30 pm on Tuesday itself. On the basis of this order, CBI had gone to take Shahjahan Sheikh into custody. Both the ED and the state government filed separate appeals challenging the single bench’s January 17 order appointing a joint special investigation team (SIT) of CBI and state police to probe the attack on ED officials by the angry mob. Order was given to form.
What was ED’s demand?
Although the ED wanted the investigation to be transferred only to the CBI, the West Bengal government had requested the court to transfer the investigation of the case only to the state police. The state police had arrested TMC leader Shaikh a day after the High Court ordered that Shaikh, the main accused in the alleged sexual assault on women and land grab in Sandeshkhali, could be arrested by the CBI, ED or West Bengal Police.
