Before the Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got the biggest political weapon in the form of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal. BJP, which has been challenging Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal since the 2021 assembly elections, has capitalized on this issue well. Due to Sandeshkhali, BJP is on the front foot, while Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is on the back foot.
On Wednesday (March 6) in Barasat near Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi fiercely attacked Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government in a public meeting. During his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became emotional after seeing the women victims of Sandeshkhali. Political experts believe that whatever has happened in Sandeshkhali in the last two months, TMC’s fort in Mamata Banerjee’s stronghold i.e. Sandeshkhali seems to be shaking.

This is how PM strikes TMC
- PM Narendra Modi told the victims of Sandeshkhali, “Don’t worry, we will take care of you. Due to protocol, some buses could not reach Barasat on time.”
- Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of not allowing the schemes of the Central Government to be implemented in the state, the PM said that the schemes of women safety, Beti Bachao-Beti Badhao, Ujjwala Yojana, cheap cylinders have also not been implemented here yet.
- PM Modi said, “Poor tribal sisters are being tortured in Sandeshkhali. The Bengal government is trying with all its might to save the oppressors, but the anger of the women of Sandeshkhali has become a rising tide. The women power of Bengal has come out to destroy the mafia rule of TMC.”
This is how TMC’s game is getting worse
TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh has a lot of influence in Sandeshkhali. He was also accused of ration scam. On January 5, when the ED team reached Shahjahan’s house for raid, the team was attacked. Shahjahan Sheikh absconded after the attack. Meanwhile, after Shahjahan Sheikh absconded, many women came forward and accused him of land grabbing and harassment. The uproar regarding this continued to increase. BJP continued protesting on this issue. When the issue of harassment of women increased, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested after 55 days.
Investigation transferred to CBI on court orders
The state government had constituted a SIT to investigate the attack on the ED team, but the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the case to the CBI. The West Bengal government reached the Supreme Court on Wednesday to ban this. After the hearing, the Supreme Court rejected the petition.
Carelessness in action may cause loss
Political experts believe that due to negligence in taking action against Shahjahan Shaikh, who is facing serious allegations against Sandeshkhali, the image of TMC seems to be getting diluted in the area. Anger is visible against TMC within the victimized women. It is being told that Mamata Banerjee is avoiding taking concrete action against Shahjahan Sheikh because of the vote bank of a particular class.
BJP is continuously challenging TMC in this way
There are 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, out of which 18 are with BJP. While TMC holds 22 seats and Congress holds 2 seats. BJP had won only 2 seats in West Bengal in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections , but in 2019 it gained 16 seats. Now that Sandeshkhali has put TMC on the back foot, it is believed that BJP can completely shake the fort of TMC in this election.
