Amit Shah on CAA: Ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) came into force, the opposition has been calling it a divisive law. The India alliance formed through opposition parties has said that if they come to power, they will repeal the CAA. On this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that it is impossible to reverse CAA. This is constitutional law. He also said that CAA will never be withdrawn.

In an interview given to Smita Prakash of news agency ANI, Amit Shah said, ‘CAA law will never be withdrawn. It is our sovereign right to ensure Indian citizenship in our country, we will never compromise with it. He said that the opposition is doing politics on this issue because it has to strengthen the vote bank. The opposition has no work, they have not yet fulfilled what they have said. Whatever our government says, it fulfills it.

‘India alliance will never come to power’- Amit Shah

During the interview, when he was asked that the opposition leaders were saying that if the India Coalition government is formed in 2024, they will withdraw the CAA. On this, Amit Shah said, ‘They know that the India alliance will not come to power. CAA has been brought by the BJP government led by PM Modi. It is impossible to cancel CAA. This is a completely constitutionally valid law.

(Interview Courtsy: ANI)

He said, ‘The Supreme Court has not banned this law. I want to ask Uddhav Thackeray to clarify whether CAA should be implemented or not. He wants minority votes and is doing appeasement politics. Actually, Uddhav Thackeray had said that BJP has brought CAA as an election gimmick. The case is still going on in the court and a notification has been issued.

CAA has nothing to do with NRC

The Home Minister also clarified that CAA has nothing to do with NRC. CAA will be implemented in Assam as well as the rest of the country. CAA will not be implemented only in the North East states where two types of special rights have been given. He said that this includes those areas where there is a provision for Inner Line Permit (ILP) and those areas which have been given special status under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution.

Important information related to the case:

  1.  Union Home Minister Amit Shah once again made it clear that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA Notification) is not against Muslims. He accused the opposition parties of practicing “politics of lies”.
  2. Regarding CAA, Amit Shah said that when partition took place, there were 23 percent Hindus in Pakistan, today there are 3.7 percent. Where has everyone gone? Not so many came here. His religion was converted and he was insulted. Shouldn’t the country consider this? The number of Hindus in Bangladesh in 1951 was 22 percent. In the 2011 census they remained at 10 percent. Where did you go? There were 2 lakh Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan in 1992, today 500 are left. Don’t these people have the right to live according to their faith? When India was one, they were together. These are our people. Even if this theory is accepted, then why were so many refugees allowed to come after partition?
  3. Amit Shah said why the opposition does not talk about Rohingya, Kejriwal does not discuss Rohingya. The opposition is doing politics on this for the sake of appeasement politics.
  4. The Home Minister said that CAA is the law of this country. We had promised CAA in the manifesto. BJP’s agenda is absolutely clear. Every guarantee of Modi will be fulfilled.
  5. Amit Shah said that this will not make any difference to the rights of tribals. Most of the tribal areas of the northeastern states, including the areas granted special status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, have been kept out of the purview of the CAA. According to this, it will not be implemented even in those states of North-East, where Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is in force.
  6. Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti said that this matter is in the Supreme Court, so why was it implemented. Amit Shah said on this that there is no stay of the Supreme Court in this matter. Therefore there was no problem in implementation. If the petition on Article 370 was made in 1951 itself, why was it kept for so long? When it comes to your side, the parameters of morality change.
  7. On Uddhav Thackeray’s allegation that he “brought CAA to hide his failures”, Amit Shah said that he should clarify before the public whether this law is necessary or not.
  8. Amit Shah also made it clear that this is not against Muslims. Muslims will also have the right to citizenship, they can apply. The Government of India will decide that. The path is not closed to anyone.
  9. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal raising questions on CAA that people from outside CAA will come, incidents of theft, rape will increase, jobs will be lost? On this, Amit Shah said that the Delhi CM has lost his temper after his corruption case was exposed. They do not know that they have already arrived and are living in India. If there is so much concern then why don’t they oppose Rohingya. Are Rohingyas not killing their right to jobs? You are not speaking for them. For them, Delhi elections are like chewing iron gram. I would even tell them to go to a refugee’s house and have a cup of tea. Understand their pain and how they left behind property worth billions and set up vegetable shops in the Delhi market. How the pride of the women of these families was snatched away in the name of religion. Even today such people do not have citizenship, no property…
  10. Amit Shah also said that the decision of partition was taken by Congress, at that time it had said that those who will come will be given citizenship, but they went back on the promise. We can’t do this.
  11. On the rumors of detention camp, he said that there is no such provision in CAA. Arrangements will also be made for those who do not have valid documents. At present 85 percent are covered under it. Their arrangements are being made.
  12. The three states Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal said that we will not allow it to be implemented? On this, Amit Shah said that in our Article 11, the Parliament has given the right to make laws regarding citizenship. This is a central issue. This is not a joint matter between the Center and the state. States will also cooperate after the elections. They are doing politics only for elections.
  13. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has called CAA unconstitutional, while Shashi Tharoor has said that if the India alliance wins, he will withdraw it. On this question, Amit Shah said that he also knows that the India alliance will not come to power. It is impossible to take it back. We will make the entire country aware. Those who are talking about this reversal will not get a chance. This is completely constitutional.
  14. Asaduddin Owaisi has called it anti-Muslim? On this question, Amit Shah said that under CAA, the minority refugees who have come from the areas cut off from India, who have been subjected to religious persecution, are being given citizenship. There cannot be religious persecution against Muslims in these three countries because all three countries are declared Islamic states. Along with this, if any Muslim also wants citizenship then he can apply.
  15. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also said that the government has brought… to hide its failures. On this question, Amit Shah said that you yourself should discuss with Rahul Gandhi and ask him the details as to why he is opposing the CAA.
