Story:
This film is based on Benjamin’s 2008 novel Aadujeevitham and is based on a true incident. When Blaise read this novel in 2008, he thought of making a film on it but after many difficulties, the film has been made now. This is the story of a man named Najeeb who goes to Saudi Arabia to work and gets trapped in a slaughterhouse where he has to look after goats. How he escapes from there is shown in this film.
How is the film?
This film shakes you up. What can happen to someone when he gets stuck in another country, the way it is shown in this film shakes you up. You are forced to think whether you should leave your country.
The first half is good. The film comes to the point but you cannot see what happens in the second half. People yearning for a drop of water, humans living like animals among animals.
After seeing all this, you cannot believe that this also happens. You cannot understand the language of foreigners but perhaps the director wants to make you feel the pain that Najeeb feels, that is why subtitles have not been used. The film makes you feel that pain very well.
It convinces you that great cinema can still be made. What is needed is a maker. One shortcoming of the film is that it seems a bit long. It seems that it can be cut a bit.
Prithviraj has touched standard of acting and gone beyond it
If there is a high point or standard of acting, then Prithviraj has touched it and gone beyond it. In the beginning, he seems to be a common Malayali man weighing around 90 kg, a very ordinary looking person, but then he becomes like an animal when he lives among animals. His clothes become so loose that he has to tie a rope to hold his pants. In the second half, when he runs through the desert, you feel his pain.
Prithviraj has done such a work in this film that very few actors can do. This character should be taught in all acting workshops. No matter how many awards you give him, it will not be enough. K R Gokul has done a wonderful job in the role of Hakim. Jimmy Jean Louis’ acting as Ibrahim Qadri is also amazing. Amala Paul’s work as Najeeb’s wife is amazing.Â
Direction
Blaise has written and directed this film and it must be said that he is the soul of this film. The way Blaise has shown the pain of this character can only be shown by a brilliant director. The hard work that Blaise has done on each frame is commendable.
Music
AR Rahman’s music adds a new life to the film, suits the mood of the film perfectly and takes the story forward in a balanced manner.Â
