Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP released its eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Saturday (March 30). The party has now announced candidates for 11 Lok Sabha seats in three states. In this, candidates have been fielded on six Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, three in Odisha and two in West Bengal. BJP has also given a chance to people who came from other parties.

Sunny Deol did not get the ticket
BJP has fielded Hans Raj Hans from Faridkot in Punjab but has denied ticket to sitting MP and Bollywood actor Sunny Deol from Gurdaspur seat. Dinesh Singh ‘Babbu’ has been nominated in place of Sunny Deol. Earlier it was believed that BJP has denied ticket to Hans Raj Hans as he was not given ticket from North West Delhi seat in the party’s second list. BJP has again expressed trust in him by giving him a chance from Faridkot.
BJP gave a chance to turncoats
BJP has given ticket to Bhartrihari Mahtab from Cuttack, Odisha. Bhartrihari Mahtab recently left Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined BJP. At the same time, Preneet Kaur, who recently joined BJP, has also been given ticket from Patiala. She has contested elections from Patiala many times and is the current MP from this seat.
Preneet Kaur is the wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and served as Union Minister of State for External Affairs during the UPA government. The Congress suspended her from the party in February 2023 for supporting Amarinder Singh, who joined the BJP.
Sushil Kumar Rinku, who came from AAP to BJP, got the ticket
BJP has given ticket to Sushil Kumar Rinku, who left Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Jalandhar. Ravneet Singh Bittu, who left Congress and joined BJP four days ago, has also been made a candidate from Ludhiana seat. Ravneet Singh Bittu is the current MP from Ludhiana and grandson of former Punjab CM Beant Singh. He was considered close to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. At the same time, BJP has made former IPS Debashish Dhar a candidate from Birbhum Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal.

Big upset has been seen in Punjab List
1. Bollywood actor and MP Sunny Deol, who defeated Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar from Gurdaspur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections , has lost his ticket this time. In his place, BJP has fielded Dinesh Singh Babbu. Earlier, during the assembly elections too, Sunny Deol had come into the limelight due to his absence in the election campaign.
2. BJP has bet on singer Hansraj Hans from Faridkot seat. Hansraj Hans is currently an MP from North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The party had recently denied him ticket from Delhi.
3. Sushil Kumar Rinku, who recently resigned from Aam Aadmi Party and joined BJP, has been given ticket from Jalandhar by the party. Rinku is an MP from Jalandhar and AAP had given him ticket this time too, however he resigned from the party after that. Rinku has also been in Congress.
4. Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, recently joined the BJP, giving a big blow to the Congress. Bittu was elected MP from Ludhiana in the 2014 and 2019 elections. However, on March 26, he left the Congress and joined the BJP. The party has made him a candidate from Ludhiana.Â
5. BJP has given ticket to Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, from Patiala. Preneet Kaur had joined BJP recently. Kaur had won the 2019 elections on a Congress ticket.
BJP has so far announced 411 candidates
BJP has so far announced 411 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Voting for the 18th Lok Sabha in the country will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1 and counting of votes will begin on June 4. Voting will be held in the first phase on April 19, in the second phase on April 26, in the third phase on May 7, in the fourth phase on May 13, in the fifth phase on May 20, in the sixth phase on May 25 and in the seventh phase on June 1. About 97 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections.
