The financial year 2024-25 has started and for the banking world, it has started with a plethora of holidays in the first month. The first month of the new financial year i.e. April 2024 is not going to have two or four but a full 14 holidays for the banks. This is going to affect the operations of banks this week as well.
According to the list of bank holidays released by RBI, this week is full of holidays for banks. In many states, there will be work in bank branches for only three days this week. This means that banks will be open for only 3 days in the respective states. Common customers may have to face problems due to banks being closed on most days of the week.

Series starting on Tuesday
Bank holidays are starting from Tuesday, 9 April 2024, the second day of the week. On Tuesday, banks will remain closed for Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Telugu New Year, Sajibu Nogampanaba (Cheiraoba) and Pratham Navratri. Banks will remain closed due to different festivals according to different states. The states where bank branches will remain closed on Tuesday include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Goa and Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid holiday on 10 and 11 April
On the third day of the week, Wednesday, April 10, banks will remain closed in Kerala on the occasion of Ramzan (Eid-ul-Fitr). On Thursday, April 11, banks will remain closed in almost the entire country. On this day, banks will work only in Chandigarh, Sikkim, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh. On Thursday, banks are closed on account of Ramzan (Eid-ul-Fitr) and first Shawwal.
Only 3 days of work in these states
13th April is the second Saturday of the month. Due to this, banks will remain closed across the country. After that, there will be a Sunday holiday in banks on 14th April. In this way, during this week, banks in at least 8 states will work only for 3 days and will remain closed for 4 days. The states in which banks will remain closed for 4 days in a week are – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Goa and Jammu and Kashmir.
Digital banking will not be affected
Despite so many bank holidays, customers can avoid hassles. Such tasks that require visiting the bank branch can be done in advance by looking at the holiday calendar. Many other banking facilities will be available through digital banking and ATMs even on holidays.
