Sam Pitroda’s statement on Inheritance Tax: The excitement regarding the Lok Sabha elections is at its peak. The attacks and counter-attacks regarding Mangalsutra and property had not even stopped yet and now BJP has targeted a statement of Congress leader Sam Pitroda. Actually a video of Sam Pitroda is going viral on social media, in which he is referring to America’s inheritance tax. On this, BJP surrounded him and alleged that the policies of Congress are going to destroy the country. Meanwhile, Congress has distanced itself from Pitroda’s statement and called it his personal statement.

Sam Pitroda, President of Indian Overseas Congress, said in Chicago, USA that “In America, there is an inheritance tax. If someone has a property worth $100 million and when he dies, he can transfer only 45 percent of it to his children. The remaining 55 percent is taken by the government. This is an interesting law. It says that you created wealth in your generation and now you are leaving, you should leave your wealth for the public – not completely, but half. I like this fair law.”
Along with this, he further said, ‘However, in India you do not have this. If someone has assets of 10 billion and he dies, then his children get 10 billion and the public gets nothing… So people have to debate and discuss such issues. I don’t know what the conclusion will be in the end, but when we talk about reallocation of assets, we are talking about new policies and new programs which are in the interest of the people and not just in the interest of the rich.’
What dia BJP leader Amit Malviya say?
BJP leader Amit Malviya hit back at Sam Pitroda’s statement and warned voters about Congress’ plans. He wrote on social media platform X, ‘Congress has decided to destroy India. Now, Sam Pitroda advocates 50% inheritance tax for wealth redistribution. This means that 50% of whatever we make from all our hard work and enterprise will be taken away. 50% is in addition to all the taxes we pay, that too will increase if Congress wins.’
What did Congress leader Pawan Khera say?
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera rebuked Malviya’s allegations and asked, “Did he (Pitroda) say that the Congress will bring this policy? Has the Congress said so in its manifesto? Is it not allowed to discuss and debate different views in this ancient land of Shastrartha?”
