Weather Update, Elections 2024 Phase 2 Voting: Lok Sabha elections are going on in the country these days. Voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections will be held on Friday (26, April). However, along with the elections, the heat is also increasing in the country. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning about severe heat on the day of voting on 26 April.
According to the report of English newspaper ‘The Hindu’, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heat wave in many states of the country during the next five days from April 25. People may have to face severe heat in West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Red alert has been issued for West Bengal-Odisha and Orange alert in Bihar and Karnataka.

The Meteorological Department said, “People may have to face trouble due to scorching heat in Tripura, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Meghalaya and Goa. However, light rain with strong winds is expected in parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on April 26.”
Be cautious in areas with red and orange alert
IMD said that Odisha is facing heatwave conditions from 15 April and West Bengal from 17 April. IMD said, “Heatwave conditions will continue in Odisha from 27 to 29 April. In the areas where red alert has been issued, people may suffer from heatstroke due to heat. Also, in the areas with orange alert, people who work in the sun all day may fall ill due to heat.”
IMD had already given warning
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert was already issued regarding heat wave. Heat wave is expected to continue for four to eight days in different parts of the country in April. Whereas in some places, heat wave conditions will persist for one to three days. The states for which heat wave warning was issued include Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Voting will take place in these states
On Friday, voting will be held for all 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Bihar and Assam, three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one seat each in Tripura, Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir.
