Punjab Kings registered a record-breaking win against Kolkata

KKR vs PBKS IPL 2024: Punjab Kings have defeated Kolkata Knight Riders. Sam Curran’s team had a huge target of 262 runs, but thanks to Jonny Bairstow’s century and Shashank Singh’s stormy innings, the target was achieved 8 balls earlier. Jonny Bairstow returned unbeaten after scoring 108 runs off 48 balls. He hit 8 fours and 9 sixes in his innings. At the same time, Shashank Singh scored a quick 68 runs off 28 balls. This batsman hit 2 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. There was a partnership of 84 runs between Jonny Bairstow and Shashank Singh.

Bairstow-Shashank’s amazing stormy start

In this way, Punjab Kings achieved the biggest target in the 17-year history of IPL. Punjab Kings openers Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow, who came to bat in response to Kolkata Knight Riders’ 261 runs, gave a stormy start by adding 93 runs in the first 6 overs. However, after this Prabhsimran Singh was run out after scoring 54 runs in 20 balls, but Jonny Bairstow held the other end firmly. Riley Russo scored 26 runs in 16 balls. But after this Jonny Bairstow got a good support from Shashank Singh.

Bairstow’s fiery century

Prabhsimran, who came out to chase the huge score of 262 runs given by Kolkata, along with Jonny Bairstow gave the team a stormy start. Both of them scored 93 runs in just 6 overs. Prabhsimran played an innings of 54 runs hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes in 20 balls. After his dismissal, Bairstow continued his explosive batting and scored a century. He completed his second century in IPL history by hitting 8 fours and as many sixes in 45 balls.

Shashank Singh again created havoc

Shashank Singh’s stormy fifty was the most important in Punjab Kings’ record run chase. He played an unbeaten innings of 68 runs in just 28 balls hitting 8 sixes and 2 fours. During this explosive innings, Shashank led the team to victory by reaching the biggest target not only of the tournament but also of T20 history.

KKR bowlers were thrashed badly 

KKR bowlers looked absolutely helpless in front of Punjab Kings batsmen today. Harshit Rana was the most expensive bowler for the team. He conceded 61 runs in his 4 overs spell at an economy of 15.20. Apart from him, Dushmantha Chameera conceded 48 runs in 3 overs and Varun Chakraborty conceded 46 runs in 3 overs. 

The only success from KKR today was achieved by Sunil Narayan. He bowled 4 overs for his team and got 1 wicket for 24 runs. Not only this, he also sent Prabhsimran Singh to the pavilion by running him out. 

Kolkata’s stormy opening was useless

After losing the toss against Punjab Kings, the openers of Kolkata Knight Riders made a blazing start and laid the foundation for a big score. Sunil Narine and Phil Salt scored 137 runs for the team in just 10 overs. Both these batsmen scored fifties for the team. Narine scored 71 runs in 32 balls hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes, while Salt scored 75 runs in 37 balls hitting 6 fours and as many sixes.

Kolkata’s second big score of the season: 261 runs for 6 wickets

This season, the Kolkata Knight Riders team scored above 260 runs for the second time. After scoring 277 runs against Delhi Capitals, the team scored 261 runs for 6 wickets against Punjab Kings. After a brilliant start by Sunil Narine and Phil Salt, captain Shreyas Iyer played an important role in taking the team to this score by scoring 28 runs in 10 balls.

Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran won the toss and decided to bowl. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 261 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Phil Salt returned to the pavilion after scoring the highest 75 runs in 37 balls. He hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. While Sunil Narine played a blistering innings of 71 runs in 32 balls. This batsman hit 9 fours and 4 sixes in his stormy innings. Venkatesh Iyer scored 39 runs in 23 balls. While KKR captain Shreyas Iyer scored 28 runs in 10 balls.

Arshdeep Singh took the maximum of 2 wickets for Punjab Kings. Apart from this, Sam Karan, Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel took 1 wicket each.

Punjab Kings reached number eight in the points table

Sunil Narine got the only success for Kolkata Knight Riders. At the same time, after this victory, Punjab Kings have reached the eighth position with 8 points in 9 matches. While Mumbai Indians led by Hardik Pandya have slipped to the ninth position. However, despite this defeat, KKR remains in second place with 10 points in 8 matches.
