Arvinder Singh Lovely Joins BJP: Former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely has joined the BJP a few days after stepping down from the post. While leaving the Congress, he had said that he would not join the BJP. Arvinder Singh Lovely joined the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the post of Delhi Congress president on April 28. Apart from Arvinder Lovely and Rajkumar, some other prominent faces of the Delhi Congress unit, including Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya and Amit Malik, joined the BJP on Saturday.
After joining BJP, Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “…we have been given the opportunity to fight for the people of Delhi under the banner of BJP and under the leadership of the Prime Minister, for this I thank the top leadership. I am hopeful that the BJP government will be formed with a huge majority in the country, in the coming days the BJP flag will fly in Delhi too.”
The Delhi Congress unit is gripped by turmoil and infighting as city leaders are angry and upset over the alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the high command’s preference for “outsiders” over local leadership in ticket distribution.
Former Delhi minister and All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Rajkumar Chauhan had resigned from the party last month after the Delhi Congress disciplinary committee raised objections to his “dissent” from the party line.
Arvinder Singh Lovely’s resignation from the post of Delhi unit chief last month was a big blow to the party. After this, many well-known names like former Delhi MLA, Naseeb Singh and Neeraj Basoya also joined.
