Brij Bhushan Singh VS Wrestlers: Former Wrestling Association President and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has received a big setback from the Rouse Avenue Court in the case of alleged sexual exploitation of female wrestlers. The court has ordered to frame charges against Brij Bhushan. Along with this, an order was also given to frame charges against Brij Bhushan’s secretary Vinod Tomar.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajput of Rouse Avenue Court passed the order. The court said that there is sufficient evidence to frame charges against Brij Bhushan. Brij Bhushan was ordered to be charged under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation). The court also said that there is evidence to frame charges against Vinod Tomar under 506 (1).
Charges framed in sexual harassment case of five women wrestlers
The next hearing is on 21 May, in which the accused will have to come and sign at 2 pm. The court has acquitted Brijbhushan of the charges leveled by the sixth wrestler, but the Delhi court has framed charges against BJP leader Brijbhushan Singh in the sexual harassment case of five female wrestlers.
6 female wrestlers had accused him of sexual abuse
Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Singh on June 15, 2023 under sections 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment) 354-D (stalking), and section 506 (criminal intimidation). Six wrestlers had accused the BJP MP of sexual harassment. Based on their complaints, the police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Brij Bhushan Singh.
A plea was also made in the Supreme Court
The complainants had earlier moved the Supreme Court to register an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh. Following this, the Delhi Police informed the Supreme Court that an FIR has been registered and investigation is underway. On April 26, the court had rejected an application filed by Brij Bhushan for further investigation in the case.

On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he said, “Charges have been framed against Brijbhushan. Thanks to the honourable court. This is a big victory for the struggle of women wrestlers. The daughters of the country have had to go through such a difficult time, but this decision will give relief. Those who trolled the women wrestlers should also be ashamed.”
Now what next?
After the charges are framed by the Rouse Avenue Court, the trial in this case will now begin. First of all, the investigating agency i.e. Delhi Police will present its evidence to prove the three sections under which the charges have been framed against the accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The evidence presented by the defense will be cross-examined. After this, Brij Bhushan will present evidence in his defense, which will be questioned by the lawyer of Delhi Police. After the trial is completed, the court will give its verdict regarding the conviction.
