Lok Sabha Elections, High-Stakes Fourth Phase: Asaduddin Owaisi to Akhilesh Yadav, Fate of VIPs Hangs in Balance

Lok Sabha Elections 4th Phase: Voting for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Monday, May 13. In this phase, voting is to be held on 96 Lok Sabha seats in 10 states and union territories. 4 famous candidates of the opposition are in the electoral fray. The public will decide their fate by exercising their right to vote and will capture it in EVM.

In fact, in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, voters will be able to cast their votes in all 25 seats of Andhra Pradesh, 17 seats of Telangana, 13 seats of Uttar Pradesh, 11 seats of Maharashtra, 8 seats of West Bengal, 8 seats of Madhya Pradesh, 5 seats each of Bihar. Apart from this, 4 seats each of Jharkhand, Odisha and 1 seat each of Jammu and Kashmir are included.

These bigwigs are contesting in the fourth phase

1- Asaduddin Owaisi

In Hyderabad, BJP candidate Madhavi Latha has challenged All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen’s sitting MP Asaduddin Owaisi in a crucial contest for the Lok Sabha elections. Asaduddin Owaisi, popular in this Lok Sabha constituency, is campaigning vigorously for a fifth term, stressing on political representation and minority rights. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Asaduddin Owaisi won by a margin of 282,186 votes. At the same time, he defeated BJP’s Bhagwant Rao.

2. Mahua Moitra

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra is pitted against BJP’s Amrita Roy. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, TMC’s Mahua Moitra won with 614,872 votes. She defeated BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey, who secured 551,654 votes. CPI(M)’s Shantanu Jha got 120222 votes. Mahua Moitra was recently expelled from the Lok Sabha.

3. Shatrughan Sinha

TMC has fielded Shatrughan Sinha against BJP’s Surinderjit Singh Ahluwalia. While, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Babul Supriyo had won the seat. However, the seat fell vacant after Supriyo joined the TMC.

4- Akhilesh Yadav

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav is challenging sitting MP and BJP leader Subrata Pathak. Akhilesh Yadav was a Lok Sabha MP from 2000-2012 and after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2012, he resigned from the Kannauj parliamentary seat. In 2019, BJP’s Subrata Pathak defeated Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav in a close contest here.

5. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary

Baharampur is witnessing a fierce contest between the Congress, BJP and TMC. Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan will take on West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and BJP candidate Nirmal Kumar Saha. While, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury currently represents Baharampur in the Lok Sabha. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a prominent figure in Baharampur, has won for the Congress party three consecutive times from 2009 to 2019.

476 crorepati candidates in the fourth phase, TDP’s Chandrasekhar Pemmasani is the richest candidate

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, There are also many candidates in this phase who are millionaires. Let us know about those candidates.

Actually, 1,710 candidates are in the fray in the fourth phase. Out of these, 476 candidates are crorepatis. Apart from this, the assets of 24 candidates are zero. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has assets worth Rs 5,705 crores while BJP candidate Konda Vishwaeshwar Reddy has assets worth Rs 4,568 crores.

What does the ADR report say?

According to the report of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 70 candidates of BJP are contesting in the fourth phase. Among these, 65 to 93 percent candidates are crorepatis. Apart from this, 56 crorepati candidates of Congress are in the electoral fray. Along with this, there are many crorepati candidates of BJD, RJD, TDP, BRS, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Shiv Sena. 7 candidates of Trinamool Congress and 11 candidates of SP are also crorepatis. 

Chandrasekhar Pemmasani has so much wealth

In the fourth phase, TDP candidate Chandrashekhar Pemmasani from Guntur Lok Sabha seat of Andhra Pradesh is the richest candidate. He has assets worth Rs 5,705 crore. Apart from this, a case is also registered against him. BJP candidate Konda Vishwaeshwar Reddy from Chevella in Telangana has assets worth Rs 4,568 crore. Four criminal cases are registered against Reddy.

These are also crorepati candidates

TDP candidate from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy has assets worth Rs 716 crore. There are six criminal cases against him. BJP candidate from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal Amrita Roy has assets worth Rs 554 crore. Along with this, BJP candidate CM Ramesh from Anakapalle in Andhra Pradesh has assets worth Rs 497 crore.

Know where voting will take place in the Fourth Phase?

In the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, voting will be held on 96 seats in 10 states. Voting will be held in 25 seats of Andhra Pradesh namely Araku, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Amalapuram, Rajahmundry, Narsapuram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Narasaraopet, Bapatla, Ongole, Nandyal, Kurnool, Nellore, Tirupati, Rajampet, Chittoor, Hindupur, Anantapur, Kadapa.

Whereas, Bihar has 5 Lok Sabha seats, in which voting will take place in Darbhanga, Ujiarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai and Munger. At the same time, voting will take place on 1 seat of Jammu and Kashmir.

Apart from this, voting is to be held on 8 Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh, which include Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone and Khandwa. Voting is also to be held on 11 seats of Maharashtra, which include Nandurbhar, Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Aurangabad, Maval, Pune, Shirur, Ahmednagar, Shirdi and Beed.

Voting will be held in 4 Lok Sabha seats of Odisha, which include Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur, Koraput. Whereas, voting will be held in 17 seats of Telangana, which include Adilabad, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Zaheerabad, Medak, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Chevella, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Bhongir, Warangal, Mahbubabad and Khammam. Where the fourth phase of voting is to be held on May 13.

Voting for the fourth phase will be held in 13 Lok Sabha seats of UP including Shahjahanpur, Kheri, Dharuhara, Sitapur, Hardoi, Misrikh, Unnao, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Kannauj, Kanpur, Akbarpur and Bahraich. Along with this, voting will be held in 8 seats of West Bengal including Baharampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Bardhaman Purba, Bardhaman-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur and Birbhum.
