Weather Update: North India is in the grip of severe heat. On Thursday (22 May), the hottest city in the country was Barmer in Rajasthan. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 48.8° Celsius. 8 people died due to heat wave in the state. The temperature on the India-Pakistan border near Jaisalmer reached 53° Celsius. BSF also shared a video of this.

In the coming days, the temperature in Rajasthan can reach 50 degrees Celsius. A red alert has been issued for today and tomorrow (23-24 May) in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will remain 40 degrees even at 10 pm. At the same time, 4 people died due to heavy rains in Kerala. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain (11 to 20 cm rain in 24 hours) in 9 districts.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heat wave in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for four days. There is also a heat wave alert in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra.

On Wednesday, Kashmir also experienced the first heatwave of the season. Except for Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, more than 50 cities in heatwave alert states recorded temperatures above 43 degrees for the eighth consecutive day.

The Meteorological Department has said that the temperature in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh will remain above 44 degrees for the next 5 days. Whereas, the temperature in Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana will remain between 40 to 44 degrees.

On the other hand, relief from heat is being seen in the states of South India. It is raining here. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu today. At the same time, there is a rain alert in the North-East states today as well.

6 flights diverted due to lightning in Goa

The runway lights of Manohar International Airport in Goa got damaged due to lightning on Wednesday. Due to this, 6 flights had to be diverted.

The airport spokesperson said- Lightning struck around 5 pm on Wednesday evening. The runway lights were fixed by 8 pm. Such natural calamities are not in our control. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.

Weather forecast for the next 3 days

24 May: Strong heat predicted in UP Rajasthan at night, rain expected in 6 states

  • Intense heat is expected in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan at night. Heatwave will prevail in Delhi and Punjab.
  • In Kerala and West Bengal, coastal cities will experience winds blowing at a speed of 40 kilometres per hour.
  • There will be heavy rains in West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

May 25: Heatwave likely in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh

  • Severe heat wave conditions are likely over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
  • Heatwave conditions will prevail in different parts of Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

May 26: Heavy rains in North-East, heatwave in 7 states

  • There will be heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Heatwave will prevail in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra.

Rajasthan: Temperature at Indo-Pak border is 53 degree Celsius; Alert in 13 districts today

Severe heat wave wreaked havoc in Rajasthan on Thursday. Four people died in the state due to heat wave. Three people including a woman died in Jalore and a youth died in Balotra. 7 peacocks died due to heat in Khairthal.

Here, the temperature on the India-Pakistan border adjoining Jaisalmer has reached 53 degrees Celsius. A red alert for heat wave has been issued in 22 districts of the state for the next three days from yesterday.

Madhya Pradesh: Heatwave will prevail in many , Ratlam is the hottest

Gwalior, Chambal and Malwa-Nimar of Madhya Pradesh are experiencing intense heat. Ratlam is the hottest city for the last 2 days. At the same time, the temperature in Bhopal-Indore has reached record levels, while Gwalior-Chambal is affected by heat wave. Dr. Vedprakash Singh, Senior Meteorologist of Meteorological Department Bhopal, said that there will be intense heat in the entire state from 24-25 May.

Chhattisgarh: Chances of rain with thunder and lightning today too, Raipur will remain cloudy

Due to the moisture coming from the sea and the formation of a system, rain was recorded in many districts including Raipur Durg in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, Raipur will remain slightly cloudy today. There is no possibility of any significant change in the maximum temperature in the state for the next 3 days. After that there may be a slight increase in temperature. 

Bihar: Rain in 3 districts, weather changed in Patna ; Storm and rain alert in entire Bihar

It has been raining since morning in many districts of Bihar including Gopalganj, Nalanda, Begusarai. The weather has changed in Patna as well. It is cloudy. Cold wind is blowing. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert regarding rain and strong wind in Bihar on Thursday. Uttar Pradesh: Rain alert in 17 districts, this time Ramal cyclone is bringing monsoon

An alert has been issued for thunderstorms in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and a heatwave in the western part. Nights will be extremely hot in 32 districts. The weather department has issued this warning for Thursday. The heat will continue for more than a month. Jhansi was the hottest city in the state on Wednesday with a temperature of 46.3 degrees.
