Monsoon Arrival: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday (May 29, 2024) that the monsoon may arrive ahead of schedule. The IMD said that the southwest monsoon is likely to hit the Kerala coast and parts of the Northeast on Thursday (April 30, 2024), a day before the forecast.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department had predicted the arrival of monsoon in Kerala by May 31. Whereas the normal date of arrival of monsoon in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam is June 5. What is the reason for the early arrival of monsoon?
News agency PTI quoted meteorologists as saying that one of the reasons for the early arrival of monsoon could be cyclonic storm Remal. Meteorologists said, “Cyclone Remal, which passed through West Bengal and Bangladesh, pulled the monsoon flow towards the Bay of Bengal. This could be one of the reasons for the early arrival of monsoon in the Northeast.”
However, the maximum impact of cyclonic storm Ramal has been felt in West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam.
People lost their lives in the Northeast state
Due to the cyclonic storm Remal, heavy rains and landslides have occurred in the Northeast state (Northeast India). Due to this, more than 30 people have died and many others are missing. Apart from this, many houses have also collapsed.
The death toll rose to 29 after four more bodies were recovered following landslides and rains at various places in Mizoram’s Aizawl district. At the same time, four people died in Assam, four in Nagaland and two in Meghalaya.
