Karnataka Bill Against NEET: Amid Outrage and Protests Follow, This State Passes Bill Exempting NEET Exam!

NEET News: : Amid the uproar over NEET in the country, a state has decided that it will no longer allow this medical entrance exam to take place here. Actually, we are talking about Karnataka, where a new bill has been passed amid the uproar over the NEET paper leak. The Congress-led Karnataka government has given its consent to the bill proposing to cancel NEET. This proposal was made and passed in the state cabinet meeting held on Monday (July 22).

This bill brought in Karnataka is against the NEET exam. It proposes to conduct any other medical entrance exam instead of NEET or to link NEET with Common Entrance Test (CET) in Karnataka. The bill will be introduced in the Karnataka Vidhan Soudha. In this, the government has been requested to allow the state to give admission in medical courses on the basis of 12th class marks. Before the implementation of NEET, admission in medical colleges was done in this manner.

Actually, this decision has been taken by the Karnataka government at a time when there is uproar across the country over the alleged paper leak in the NEET UG exam. If this bill is passed by the state assembly, then students will have to take the state competitive exam for admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medical colleges of Karnataka. They will get freedom from NEET. However, it is not yet clear what the exam that will replace NEET will be called. 

A resolution was also passed against NEET in Tamil Nadu

Last month, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Tamil Nadu government also passed a resolution against NEET. The DMK government had asked the Center to allow state governments to conduct admissions in medical courses. Several regional parties, including Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and Communist Party of India (Marxist), also supported the DMK government’s proposal. 

DMK MP K Kanimozhi, while speaking to news agency ANI, said, “Tamil Nadu has been continuously saying that we do not want NEET. Now it has been proved that NEET is not a fair exam and students are suffering a lot because of it. We want NEET to be abolished. We have passed a resolution in our assembly and it is still to be signed by the President.
