Bangladesh Coup: There has been a coup in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina, who was in power for a long time in Bangladesh, had to flee the country on Monday after violent protests by students. Sheikh Hasina has left Bangladesh and reached Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. On the other hand, it is coming to light that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI is behind the situation in Bangladesh. The name of an organization called Chhatra Shivir is coming to the fore behind inciting violence in the country. Chhatra Shivir is a part of Jamaat-e-Islami, which is banned in Bangladesh. And Jamaat-e-Islami has the support of Pakistan’s intelligence agency.

Sheikh Hasina government had banned Jamaat-e-Islami, its student union and other organizations a few days ago in view of the violence in the country. Jamaat-e-Islami and all its organizations had come out on the streets against this move of the government. Jamaat-e-Islami is a fundamentalist organization.

According to intelligence reports, Bangladesh officials were claiming to have evidence of meetings between Tariq Rahman and ISI officials in Saudi Arabia.

Many anti-Bangladesh handles were constantly promoting this protest on the social media handle X and more than 500 negative tweets were made against the Sheikh Hasina government. These handles also include Pakistani handles. It has been learned that the student wing of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami is also allegedly getting support from Pakistan’s ISI. The work of this organization was to incite violence in Bangladesh and turn the student protests into a political movement.

The aim of the Pakistan Army and ISI is to destabilise the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and restore the opposition BNP.

What is the issue?

Let us tell you that the student protests against reservation in jobs in Bangladesh have turned into a widespread political movement. Students are raising the issue of ending the controversial reservation system in the country. Under the reservation system, a 30 percent quota in government jobs has been fixed for the families of freedom fighters who fought for independence in 1971 in Bangladesh. The allegation is that the people of Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League are getting the benefit of this reservation rule.

The protests that started in Bangladesh over reservation have now completely turned into violence. Amidst the violence, there was a coup in the neighboring country on Monday. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country. After her resignation, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman held a press conference. The Army Chief said, “After the resignation of PM Sheikh Hasina, now we will rule. We will run the country by forming an interim government. Our country is suffering losses. Property is being lost. Give me the responsibility, I will take care of everything.”

General Waqar-uz-Zaman said that we will fulfill your demands. We will bring back peace in the country. We will run this country through an interim government.” He told the protesters, “Stay away from vandalism, arson and violence. If you people join us, the situation will improve. Nothing will be achieved through violence. Stay away from conflict and anarchy.”

The Army Chief said, “There will be justice for the murder that took place. We talked to all the parties. We had a good discussion. Now everything will happen peacefully.”

Protesters set Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina’s office on fire

According to the Dhaka Tribune report, after Sheikh Hasina left the country, the protesters also set Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina’s office on fire. After this, the protesters entered the PM’s residence.

The mob broke the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujiburahman

The mob also broke the statue of Sheikh Mujiburahman, Sheikh Hasina’s father and also known as Bangabandhu, in Dhaka. Sheikh Mujiburahman was the father of Bangladesh.

Curfew imposed across the country

Meanwhile, the government has imposed curfew across the country to control the violence. A 3-day holiday has been declared for schools, colleges and markets. In view of the violence, the operation of many trains has been stopped till further orders. Textile factories have also been locked down. The police have asked people to stay indoors as much as possible. According to a BBC report, the internet was completely shut down in the country at 11 am on Monday. However, the internet was restored after some time.

90 people died in violent clashes on Sunday

According to reports from Dhaka, at least 90 people, including 14 policemen, were killed in fierce clashes between security forces and anti-government protesters in different parts of Bangladesh on Sunday. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Why did the protests start and how did they turn into violence?

Violence has erupted several times in Bangladesh over the issue of reservation. The protests are demanding reforms to the quota system for the country’s civil service jobs, which reserves posts for specific groups, including descendants of those who participated in the 1971 independence war against Pakistan. The protesters demanded that the 30 percent reservation system in government jobs for the relatives of the 1971 independence fighters be abolished.
