IND Vs NZ 1st Test: The Indian team had to face an 8-wicket defeat in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. The team has lost against the Kiwis at home after 36 years. The last defeat was in 1988 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The Indian team had given the Kiwis a target of 107 runs to win, which the visiting team achieved on Sunday by losing 2 wickets. Will Young returned unbeaten after scoring 45 runs and Rachin Ravindra returned unbeaten after scoring 39 runs. Earlier, Team India was all out for 462 runs in the second innings. New Zealand had scored 402 runs in the first innings and India had scored 46 runs.

The Indian team has lost after winning 6 consecutive Tests on home ground. The team’s last defeat was in Hyderabad on 25 January 2024.

4 Days of play, 2 Centuries scored

The test match started on 16 October. But due to rain, the toss could not take place on the first day. On the second day, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat. Team India was all out for 46 runs in the first innings. On the second and third day, New Zealand scored 402 runs thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s 134-run innings. Then India scored 462 runs in the second innings. Sarfaraz Khan played an innings of 150 runs. Pant fell prey to nervous 90s for the 7th time. He was out for 99 runs.

Rachin Ravindra’s century

On the third day, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell came out to open the innings for New Zealand. Ravindra scored 134 runs in 157 balls and stood till the end. In his innings, he hit 14 fours and 4 sixes. Apart from Rachin, Tim Southee scored a total of 65 runs for his team. On the basis of these brilliant innings, New Zealand scored a total of 402 runs in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took 3-3 wickets for India.

Sarfraz-Pant’s innings went waste

Then on the third day itself, Team India came out to bat. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a great start. Rohit Sharma hit a brilliant half-century and was dismissed after scoring 52 runs. Jaiswal scored 35 runs. After this, Virat Kohli also scored a half-century and took India’s score to 231. On the fourth day, Sarfaraz Khan played a brilliant innings of 150 runs for India. Pant was dismissed on 99. India scored a total of 462 runs in the second innings. In this way, India was able to take a lead of only 106 runs against New Zealand.

New Zealand took the lead

Chasing a target of 107 runs, New Zealand started their innings on 0 runs on the fifth day. Openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham could not do anything special and were out on 17 and 0 respectively. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra batted brilliantly and led their team to victory. New Zealand has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match Test series.
