Assembly speaker Narvekar will contest from Colaba

Assembly speaker Rahul Narvekar will contest from Colaba and Nitesh Rane from Kankavli. Narvekar has been the target of the opposition for not terminating the membership of Shiv Sena and NCP MLAs. Nitesh Rane is in controversy for his anti-Muslim statements. Apart from this, Atul Bhosale has been made the candidate from Karad South, the seat of former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s descendant Shivendraraje Bhosale has been made the candidate from Satar.

How many Muslims, SC and ST got the chance?

Not a single Muslim candidate has been given a ticket in the BJP’s first list of 99 candidates. However, there are four candidates from Scheduled Caste and six candidates from Scheduled Tribe have been given tickets.

Most of the sitting MLAs got tickets

In the first list of BJP, most of the current MLAs have been given tickets. Despite anti-incumbency, the party has indicated that it wants to use the old experience by giving a chance to the leaders again. It is clear that the party has made a strategy to win the election battle on the basis of old faces.

Shelar family got two tickets

BJP has given special preference to the Shelar family. Ashish Shelar was made a candidate from Bandra West and his younger brother Vinod Shelar from Malad. By giving two tickets to the Shelar family in the same election, the party gave the message that it is also giving importance to the families of powerful leaders.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule gets a chance to return

BJP Maharashtra state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been given a chance to contest the assembly elections this time. His ticket was cut in 2019, but this time the party has given him a chance again keeping in mind his leadership and organizational capabilities. Bawankule’s return is considered important for the party.

Kalidas Kolambkar’s name included again

Kalidas Kolambkar, who has contested nine times from the Wadala assembly seat and won eight times, has been given a chance once again. This is a sign of the BJP recognising his experience and electoral skills.

What are the prominent names in the list?

  • Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from Nagpur South West
  • State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule from Kamathi
  • Sanjay Kute from Jalgaon
  • Sudhir Mungantiwar from Ballarpur
  • Chandrakant Patil from Kothrud (Pune)
  • Sanjay Kelkar from Thane
  • Sambhaji Nilangekar from Nilanga

Rao Saheb Danve’s son also got a ticket

BJP has given Rao Saheb Danve’s son Santosh Danve a chance to contest from Bhokardan. This ticket is another example of nepotism, where the party has also given prominence to the family of its senior leaders. It is clear from BJP’s first list that the party is maintaining its trust in old and experienced leaders. By stressing on women empowerment and giving tickets to strong leaders of the family, the party has also tried to maintain social balance.

Maharashtra will have a single phase election on November 20, results on November 23

The term of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is ending on 26 November 2024. Maharashtra has a Mahayuti government i.e. Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP Ajit Pawar faction. Dealing with anti-incumbency and division of votes among 6 big parties will be a big challenge for the party.

In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP got reduced from 23 to 9 seats

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, out of 48 seats in Maharashtra, India alliance got 30 and NDA got 17 seats. In these, BJP got 9, Shiv Sena got 7 and NCP got only 1 seat. BJP lost 23 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NDA got 41 seats. In 2014, this figure was 42. That is, less than half.

BJP’s loss forecast as per Lok Sabha elections

As per the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP will be reduced to around 60 seats. A survey of the opposition alliance has predicted that MVA i.e. Mahavikas Aghadi will get 160 seats out of 288 seats in the state. The Maratha movement is the biggest challenge for the BJP. Apart from this, after the rift in Shiv Sena and NCP, people have sympathy with Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar.
