18-Year-Old D Gukesh Becomes Youngest Chess World Champion

D Gukesh, Youngest Chess World Champion: 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh won the World Chess Championship title in Singapore on Thursday, defeating defending champion Ding Liren of China 7.5-6.5 in the final. Gukesh has become the first player in the world to win the title at such a young age. Earlier in 1985, Russia’s Garry Kasparov had won this title at the age of 22.

Gukesh won the title by defeating the Chinese player in the 14th game. The championship final started on November 25, 13 games were played between the two till December 11. The score here was equal at 6.5-6.5. Gukesh won the 14th game today and took a lead of one point and made the score 7.5-6.5.

Gukesh said- the best moment of my life

After the match, Gukesh said, ‘Liren’s blunder was the best moment of my life. When he made a blunder, I did not understand it, I was about to make my normal move. Then I saw that his bishop was the target of my bishop. I hit it and killed his bishop with my bishop. I had to save one more pawn, in the end it was saved and Liren resigned.’

Second Indian player after Vishwanathan Anand

Gukesh became the second Indian player to become the world champion of chess. Vishwanathan Anand became the chess champion in 2012. Gukesh also won the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament at the age of 17. He then became the youngest player to win this title.

Gukesh won the 11th game, Liren made a comeback in the 12th

By Sunday, Gukesh was ahead 6-5 after 11 games. 8 out of 11 games were drawn, while Gukesh won 2 and Liren won 1. Liren then made a comeback and won the 12th game and equalized the score again.

On Wednesday, in the 13th game, Gukesh had to play a draw after 68 moves. The score was then tied at 6.5-6.5. Gukesh won the third, 11th and 14th games. Whereas Liren won the first and 12th games. The rest of the games were draws.

Gukesh got Rs 11.45 crore

This was the first time in the 138-year history of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) that two Asian players were face to face for the title of World Champion. A player got Rs 1.69 crore for winning one classical game. That is, Gukesh got Rs 5.07 crore for winning 3 games and Liren got Rs 3.38 crore for winning 2 games. The remaining prize money was divided equally between the two players, that is, Gukesh got Rs 11.45 crore and Liren got Rs 9.75 crore.

Who is D Gukesh?

Gukesh D’s full name is Dommaraju Gukesh. He hails from Chennai. Gukesh was born on 7 May 2006 in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. He was initially coached by Bhaskar Nagaiah.

Nagaiah has been an international chess player and is a home tutor of chess in Chennai. After this, Vishwanathan Anand gave coaching to Gukesh along with giving him knowledge of the game. Gukesh’s father is a doctor and his mother is a microbiologist by profession.

Gukesh had also won the Chess Olympiad

Chess Olympiad was organized in Budapest from 10 to 23 September this year. India became champion in both Open and Women’s category. In the Open category, Gukesh won the final game and gave India victory.
