Stroke Strikes Young: Earlier, stroke, silent stroke, heart attack used to trouble the elderly a lot. But recently AIIMS has shared a data according to which all these diseases are now troubling the youth more than the elderly. Out of 100 patients admitted in the Neurology Department of AIIMS, 20 patients have suffered stroke. Last year, 6 underage patients were admitted due to stroke.
This data is quite disturbing. According to doctors, the reason behind the stroke of these patients is the problem of high BP. Which is often seen in severe form in people between the age group of 21 to 45. In a year, out of 300 people, 77 patients are admitted due to stroke.

‘Times of India’ According to Awadh Kishore Pandit, Additional Professor, Neurology Department of AIIMS, according to AIIMS data, the risk of stroke has increased among youth due to high BP. According to AIIMS research 5 years ago, out of 260 patients, 65 percent were high BP patients.
What is stroke?
Emergency disorders occur in the brain, retina and spinal cord due to blockage of blood vessels (ischemic stroke) and rupture of blood vessels (hemorrhagic stroke). The risk of stroke increases by 85 percent due to diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, heart rhythm disturbances.
Brain stroke due to stress and depression
Cases of stroke increase due to heart disease, diabetes, lipid disorders, obesity, smoking. There are some other reasons due to which stroke occurs like stress, drug addiction, lack of sleep and depression in about 40 to 50 percent cases. Stroke can also occur due to jerks in the neck, sudden twisting of the neck, neck strain in the gym.

There are a lot of high BP patients around the world, 1 out of 3 patients has high BP. Due to which stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney damage occur. The number of people suffering from high blood pressure (BP 140/90 mmHg or higher or taking medication for high BP) has increased significantly between 1980 and 2019.
