Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Enmity may be fierce but there should be scope for it, whenever we become friends, we should not be ashamed… Through this couplet of famous poet Bashir Badr, the Election Commission has issued advice to political parties and their workers.

While announcing the elections on March 16, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that this time our aim is to conduct money power and manpower free elections, we have been preparing for this for two years. We will be very strict this time and we do not want the entire election to be spoiled because of a few people.

In this context, 10 guidelines have also been issued by the Election Commission. Let us understand it in detail in this story. 

1. No place for hate speech – 

The Chief Election Commissioner has said that the Supreme Court has already given guidelines regarding hate speech. In such a situation, there is no place for hate speech in elections. If leaders or workers use hate speech, strict action will be taken against them.

2. Action on money power- 

Election Commission has said that this time we are strict regarding money power. We have contacted the investigating agencies regarding this. If a leader or his workers use money power secretly, then it is not good for him. 

3. Those spreading fake news will not fare well – 

The Election Commission has said that if anyone is caught spreading fake news on social media or media during elections, then strict action will be taken against them. We have prepared a setup to identify fake news.

4. Why will people with criminal records be given tickets ?

The Election Commission says that political parties will have to explain why they gave tickets to leaders with criminal records. For this, political parties will have to advertise in newspapers and TV channels.

5. Star campaigners will not make personal attacks – 

The Election Commission has said that star campaigners of all parties will avoid making personal attacks. If they do this then the Commission can take action against them. The Commission says that elections should be based on issues. 

6. Will not use pictures of children – 

The Election Commission has asked political parties not to use small children in their campaigns in any way. The Commission says that strict action will be taken against those doing such work.

7. Action on giving wrong advertisements- 

The Election Commission has said that if any political party tries to give wrong advertisements, then strict action will be taken against it. The Commission has said that everyone will take special care of this.

8. Do not talk about caste and religion – 

The Election Commission has said that political parties should not talk about caste and religion during campaigns. The Commission has said that the campaign should unite everyone, not divide everyone. Everyone should take care of this.

9. Do not defame rivals on social media – 

The Commission has given directions to all the parties not to post defamatory posts on any leader and its candidates on social media. Strict action will be taken if this happens.

10. Give right advice to the organization – 

The Election Commission has asked the political parties to give right advice to their organizations. The Commission has said that all parties should keep the functioning of the organization transparent.

Elections in 7 phases, counting on June 4

According to the Election Commission, Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in 7 phases. Counting of votes will take place on June 4. The Commission has released the complete schedule of the elections. Voting will be conducted in all 7 phases for the Lok Sabha seats of Bihar, Bengal and UP.

The Commission has said that voting will be held for 102 seats in the first phase, 89 in the second phase, 94 in the third phase, 96 in the fourth phase, 49 in the fifth phase, 57 in the sixth phase and 57 seats in the seventh phase.
