PM Modi at UN: In New York, USA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ‘Summit for Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday night. During this, PM Modi described terrorism as the biggest threat to the world. The Prime Minister said, “Reform in global institutions is necessary for global peace and development. By taking 250 million people out of poverty, India has shown that inclusive development can be successful. India will continue to work with Mansa, Vacha, Karmana i.e. mind, words and deeds to protect the interests of the entire humanity.”

In a speech of just 4 minutes in UNGA, PM Modi presented India’s stand on the secure future of the world. He said, “On one hand, terrorism remains the biggest threat to the world, on the other hand, the sea and space are also becoming battlefields. But the success of humanity is not in the battlefield, but in working together.”

Human centric approach is the most important

PM Modi said, “Greetings to all of you from the world’s largest democracy, India, on behalf of 140 crore Indians. Just now in June, in the biggest election in human history, the people of India gave me the opportunity to serve for the third consecutive time. Today I have come to convey the voice of one-sixth of humanity to you. When we are talking about the global future, then human centric approach should be the first. While giving priority to sustainable development, we will also have to ensure human welfare, food, health security…”

The success of humanity is not in the battlefield

PM Modi said, “By bringing 250 million people out of poverty, India has shown that sustainable development can be successful. We are ready to share this experience of our success with the countries of the Global South. The success of humanity does not lie in the battlefield but in our collective power. For this, reforms in global institutions are necessary for global peace and development. Reforms is the key to relevance.”

Global action must match global ambition

PM Modi said, “Giving permanent membership of G-20 to African Union in the New Delhi summit was an important step taken in this direction. On one hand, there is a big threat to global peace and security like terrorism. On the other hand, new grounds for conflict like cyber, maritime and space are being created. On all these issues, I would like to emphasize that global action must match global ambition.”

Need for Global Digital Governance

The Prime Minister said, “Balanced regulation is needed for responsible use of technology. We need such global digital governance in which national sovereignty and integrity is maintained. Digital public infrastructure should not be a barrier or hindrance, it should be like a bridge.”

India is ready to share its digital public infrastructure with the world

PM Modi said, “For global good, India is ready to share its digital public infrastructure with the whole world. One Earth, One Family and One Future is a commitment for India. This commitment is also seen in our initiatives like One Earth, One Health, One Sun, One World, One Grid.”

The Summit for the Future was earlier to be held in 2021

UN Chief Antonio Guterres had said that this summit would be held in 2021. But due to Corona, it could not happen. Now it happened with a delay of 3 years. Leaders of 193 UN countries including US President Joe Biden participated in this summit.

The purpose of ‘Summit for Future’ is to protect the future of the earth from impending dangers. In 2015, the UN, recognizing the dangers of the world, put forward 17 goals in front of world leaders. Almost 10 years are about to complete and only 17% of these goals have been achieved. Between 1970 and 2021, more than 20 lakh people have died in 11,778 disasters due to climate change. Issues like global peace, sustainable development, climate change, human rights and gender were discussed in this summit.
