Ratan Tata Passes Away: Ratan Naval Tata, Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, has passed away at the age of 86. He was admitted to the Intensive Care (ICU) Unit of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Earlier on October 7, some media reports claimed that Ratan Tata was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital. His blood pressure had dropped significantly. After this, Ratan Tata shared a post on social media and said, ‘I am fine and went to the hospital for a routine checkup due to my old age. There is nothing to worry about.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Tata’s death. He wrote on Twitter: “Shri Ratan Tata ji was a visionary business leader, a kind soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided steady leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contributions went far beyond the boardroom. His humility, kindness and unwavering commitment to improving our society endeared him to many.”

Ratan Tata was the chairman of the group from 1990 to 2012

Born on 28 December 1937, Ratan Tata is the great-grandson of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata. He was the chairman of the group from 1990 to 2012 and was interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. Ratan was the head of the charitable trusts of the Tata Group.

Ratan took his legacy to a new level. He added Air India to his empire. He also added foreign company Ford’s luxury car brands Land Rover and Jaguar to his portfolio.

Reached heights in business life

Tata Group touched new heights under the leadership of Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata became the chairman of Tata Group in 1991 and since then he never looked back. He remained in this position till 2012. He founded companies like Tata Services in 1996 and Tata Consultancy Services in 2004. 

Ratan Tata, known for his humble behaviour, is currently the chairman of Tata Trusts, which include Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Allied Trusts as well as Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts.

Awarded with Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan 

Ratan Tata is considered to have made a significant contribution to the business world of India. He has been awarded India’s two highest civilian awards, Padma Vibhushan (2008) and Padma Bhushan (2000). He is an alumnus of the prestigious Cathedral and John Connon School, Bishop Cotton School (Shimla), Cornell University and Harvard. 

Known as a kind, simple and noble person 

Ratan Tata was born on 28 September 1937. Apart from being a billionaire, he is also seen as a kind, simple and noble person. There are many stories related to him, which tell that he helped many people. Also, Ratan Tata’s contribution in the development of the country can never be forgotten.

Which disease was Ratan Tata suffering from?

Earlier, reports had emerged that Ratan Tata was hospitalised after he suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure. He took over as the chairman of Tata Sons in 1991 and led the Tata Group until his retirement in 2012. During his tenure, the veteran industrialist founded Tata Teleservices in 1996, leading the group’s expansion into telecommunications. 

During his leadership at Tata Sons, he transformed the Tata Group from a primarily domestic company to a global powerhouse by acquiring companies such as Tetley, Corus and Jaguar Land Rover. Under his leadership, Tata grew into a truly global business empire worth over $100 billion. In December 2012, Tata retired from his position and was replaced by Cyrus Mistry, who died in a car accident in 2022.
