Kolkata Rape-Murder Case Shocks Nation: The Supreme Court on Sunday (August 18) itself took notice of the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the case on August 20 at 10.30 am. Apart from the CJI, Justice JB Padriwala and Justice Manoj Mishra will be in the bench.

The CBI team has done 3D laser mapping of the emergency ward of Radha Govind Kar Medical College and Hospital today. Today is the 9th day of doctors’ protest across the country against the Kolkata incident. The CBI, which is investigating the case, said that a psychological test of the accused Sanjay was conducted.

A team of 5 members of psychologists and behavioural analysts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is conducting this test. This can reveal the mindset of the accused Sanjay regarding the heinous crime.

In fact, on 9 August, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Violence broke out in the same hospital late on the night of 14 August, after which the doctors intensified their protest.

Today’s updates regarding the case and strike

Kolkata Police issued a notice to former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and called her for questioning at 3 pm. Police said that Locket is accused of revealing the identity of the trainee doctor.

Kolkata Police also issued summons to TMC MP Sukhendu Shekhar and called him for questioning at 4 pm. He is accused of spreading rumours and fake news regarding the case.

The CBI team did 3D laser mapping in the emergency ward of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Kolkata Police has issued notice to Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Dr. Subarno Goswami of RG Kar Hospital. Police has said that both the doctors are accused of spreading rumors regarding the case.

​CBI is questioning former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandeep Ghosh for the third consecutive day today. Sandeep Ghosh has been questioned for 36 hours so far.

Kolkata Police has arrested 2 more people in connection with the vandalism and violence that took place on August 14. A total of 32 people have been arrested so far. Police is interrogating the accused.

Centre’s order – All states will give law and order report every 2 hours

Late night on 17th August, the Central Government issued a new order saying- Now all states will give law and order information every two hours to the Home Ministry Control Room through fax, e-mail or WhatsApp.

Section 163 imposed near medical college

Kolkata police has imposed Section 163 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (earlier Section 144 of CRPC) near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from today (August 18).

In this order, it is said that there will be a ban on dharna and demonstrations for the next 7 days (till 24 August). Gathering of more than 5 people, carrying weapons or any activity that creates tension will not be allowed.

Nirbhaya’s mother said- nothing has changed since 2012

Nirbhaya’s mother said on Saturday- nothing has changed since 2012. Mamata is misusing her position. Instead of taking action against the culprits of this incident, she is trying to divert attention from the issue.

Mamata should resign from her post. Till the time the central and state governments are not serious about getting immediate punishment from the court to the perpetrators of atrocities, such incidents will keep coming up in the country every day.

Bengal government can make these important announcements for the safety of women employees

Hospitals can start a project called ‘Ratrir Saathi’ for women employees working at night. This means that women employees will have a companion with them. They will not be alone on duty.

Female doctors and nurses will not be allowed to work for more than 12 hours. Their night duty will also be reduced.

Emergency helpline (100/112) will be started for women’s safety. Security checks will be mandatory in medical colleges and hospitals.

Impact of doctors strike

The doctors’ strike affected services in hospitals across the country. Hundreds of patients were troubled as OPD, surgeries other than emergency, and IPD services remained closed in big private hospitals of Delhi.

In Delhi, more than one lakh patients are returning from hospitals without treatment every day. About 250 to 300 surgeries are not being performed every day.

In the last 6 days, more than 6 lakh patients could not get treatment, while more than 2500 surgeries could not be performed.
