Terrorist Attack in Poonch: Terrorists opened fire on an Air Force vehicle in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (May 4). News agencies quoted officials as saying that the Air Force vehicle was fired upon in the forests of Gursai in Mendhar area of ​​the district. 

According to News agencies, sources said, the Air Force personnel have given a befitting reply. The encounter with two-three terrorists is going on. Additional forces have been sent to the spot. There is no news of any Air Force personnel being injured. According to the information, the encounter between security forces and terrorists is going on at the moment. Timeline of terror attacks

In the beginning of the year 2023, terrorists attacked Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, there were 43 incidents of terrorist attacks. If we talk about the sequence, then the biggest terrorist attack in the year 2023 took place on 4 August. Here in the forest of Kulgam, terrorists fired on the army camp. Three soldiers were martyred in this.

– After this, on August 6, the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police killed three terrorists within 24 hours near the LoC.

 – On 9 August also, six terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the police and the Indian Army. While three army soldiers were injured.

– On 4 September, during a search operation in Reasi district, one terrorist was killed in an encounter between the army and terrorists. While two soldiers were injured. On 13 September, five soldiers including a colonel, a major and a DSP were martyred in an encounter in Anantnag and Rajouri. Two terrorists were also killed.

– On October 10, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Sofia. 

– On October 29, terrorists shot a police inspector three times in Srinagar.

 – After this, on November 17, five terrorists were killed in an encounter in Rajouri.

 – On November 22, during the 34-hour encounter, two terrorists were killed while five soldiers were martyred.

– After this, on December 31 last year, terrorists attacked an army convoy in Rajouri, in which five soldiers were martyred.

– There is no official record of the incidents of terrorist attacks in the year 2024. However, according to media reports, there have been six incidents of terrorist attacks in the last two months.

– Talking about the year 2022, 242 terrorist incidents took place during this period. 172 terrorists were killed. Among them, 31 soldiers were martyred. Apart from this, 30 civilians have been killed.

What did the government say on terrorist attacks?

In response to a question in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session in July 2022, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had said that there has been a decrease in terrorist attacks and activities after 2019. There were 417 terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, which had come down to 229 by 2021. 

In the reply given in the Lok Sabha, the minister said that in the year 2019, 154 terrorists were killed. 80 soldiers were martyred. In the year 2020, 244 terrorist attacks took place in Jammu and Kashmir. 221 terrorists were killed. 62 soldiers were martyred. 106 soldiers were injured. Not only soldiers were martyred in these attacks. Rather, 37 civilians were killed and 112 people were injured. After this, there has been a continuous decline in terrorist attacks.
