PM Modi J&K Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after forming the government at the Center for the third time. He will be in Jammu and Kashmir on 20 and 21 June. After the Lok Sabha elections and amid the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, this visit of PM Modi is being seen as a big political message.

This visit of PM Modi will also send a positive signal about Jammu and Kashmir in India and the world. Because one of the most challenging tasks in Modi’s third term is to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu-Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024). This is expected to happen after the assembly elections.

In fact, after the Lok Sabha elections, BJP is speeding up the preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In the BJP meetings held from June 13 to June 16, there was a discussion on using the experiences of the Lok Sabha elections to win the assembly elections. Meanwhile, on Monday, the BJP high command has indicated to put all its strength into the preparations for the elections by making Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in-charge of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Assembly elections were last held in 2014

Let us tell you that assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in November-December 2014. The BDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 after BJP withdrew its support. Since then there is no elected government here. After the abrogation of Article 370 on 5 August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been divided into two separate union territories.

This visit of PM Modi is expected to balance the concerns about security after the recent terrorist attacks in the Jammu region. Because after the removal of Article 370, record voting took place in the Kashmir Valley in the Lok Sabha elections. However, concerns
were expressed about security.

In such a situation, the presence of the Prime Minister in Jammu region also means trust in the government and indicates long term planning for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.

How many seats in Jammu and Kashmir?

After the delimitation of May 2022, there are 43 assembly seats in Jammu division, while there are 47 seats in Kashmir. Talking about the 2014 assembly elections, BJP had come out relying on the face of Narendra Modi, but the ‘Modi Magic’ failed to make the party win with an absolute majority. In the results, Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP has emerged as the largest party with a win on 28 seats, while BJP became the second largest party with 25 seats. National Conference had to be satisfied with just 15 seats. Congress was completely defeated and reached the fourth position.

In this Lok Sabha election, BJP suffered a loss of about 22 percent compared to 2019. In 2019, it got 46.39 percent votes. Regional parties National Conference and PDP benefited. In 2019, both the parties got 7.89 and 3.40 percent votes respectively.
