Major Sen, who has served in the United Nations Organization Mission in the Republic of Congo, will be awarded the prestigious ‘2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award’ on the occasion of International United Nations Peacekeepers Day on 30 May.

According to the United Nations, Major Radhika Sen was posted in the Republic of Congo as the commander of the Indian battalion from March 2023 to April 2024. Major Sen, born in Himachal Pradesh in 1993, joined the Indian Army eight years ago. She graduated as a biotech engineer. When she decided to join the army, she was doing PG from IIT Bombay. Major Radhika is the second Indian peacekeeper to receive this prestigious award after Major Suman Gawani. Major Gawani served in the United Nations mission in South Sudan and was awarded this award in 2019.

Congratulating Major Radhika Sen for her service, Guterres said that she is a ‘true leader and role model. Her service is a contribution to the United Nations as a whole.’ After the announcement of this award, Major Sen said, ‘This award is special for me, because it recognizes the hard work of all the peacekeepers working in the challenging environment of the Republic of Congo and making an outstanding contribution to bring positive change in the society.’ Currently, India has the 11th largest contribution of women military peacekeepers working for the United Nations.

The feeling of representing the country on such a big international platform cannot be described.’
