Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff. He will take over as the new Navy Chief of the country from the afternoon of April 30, 2024. Born on May 15, 1964, Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. He is a recognized Communication and Electronic Warfare Specialist.
He has given long and distinguished service of nearly 39 years. Before taking over as Vice Chief of Naval Staff, he has served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command.Â

Vice Admiral DK Tripathi has commanded Indian Naval ships Vinash, Kirch and Trishul. He has also held several important operational and staff appointments, including Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet; Director Naval Operations; Principal Director, Network Centric Operations and Principal Director Naval Plans in New Delhi. As a Rear Admiral, he has also served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Planning) and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet.

Dinesh Kumar Tripathi served as Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala in the rank of Vice Admiral. He then became Director General of Naval Operations. The flag officer has also served as Chief of Personnel.
