Delhi Elections: Congress has released the list of its 21 candidates for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. Congress has given ticket to Sandeep Dixit from New Delhi seat. Arvind Kejriwal has been contesting elections from this seat. So far AAP has not announced the candidate for New Delhi. Congress has given ticket to former state president and former MLA Anil Chaudhary from Patparganj seat. Aam Aadmi Party has changed the candidate from this seat. Earlier Manish Sisodia used to contest from this seat. He has now been fielded from Jangpura. AAP has given ticket to Awadh Ojha (Ojha Sir) from Patparganj seat. He had recently joined AAP.

The Congress has given tickets to Aruna Kumari from Narela, Mangesh Tyagi from Burari, Shivank Singhal from Adarsh ​​Nagar, Devender Yadav from Badli, Jai Kishan from Sultanpur Mazra, Rohit Chaudhary from Nangloi Jat, Praveen Jain from Shalimar Bagh, Ragini Nayak from Wazirpur, Anil Bhardwaj from Sadar Bazar.  

Mudit Agarwal from Chandni Chowk assembly constituency, Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran, PS Bawa from Tilak Nagar, Adarsh ​​Shastri from Dwarka, Abhishek Dutt from Kasturba Nagar, Rajinder Tanwar from Chhattarpur and Jai Prakash from Ambedkar Nagar have been made the candidates.

Congress has nominated Garvit Singhvi from Greater Kailash assembly seat, Anil Kumar from Patparganj seat, Abdul Rahman from Seelampur seat and Ali Mehndi from Mustafabad seat.

Kejriwal contested elections from New Delhi seat thrice, won all three times

Kejriwal defeated the then Chief Minister and Congress candidate Sheila Dixit by 25,864 votes from New Delhi Assembly seat in 2013. BJP’s Vijender Kumar was at number three. While in 2015, BJP’s Nupur Sharma was at number two. Congress’ Kiran Walia, who was at number three, got only 4781 votes. In 2020, he defeated BJP’s Sunil Kumar by 21,697 votes. Congress’ Romesh Sabharwal was at number three.

A day before, Kejriwal had said – AAP will fight the elections alone

A day before, Kejriwal had dismissed speculations of an alliance between AAP and Congress regarding the elections. He has said that AAP will fight the elections on its own. There is no possibility of any kind of alliance with Congress.

Actually, on Wednesday, the news came out that AAP is considering giving 15 seats to Congress in the Delhi assembly elections, but Kejriwal denied the talk of alliance through a post on X.

31 AAP candidates declared, 24 tickets cancelled

AAP has so far declared candidates on 31 seats. In the 2020 elections, AAP had MLAs on 27 seats while BJP had MLAs on 4. This time AAP has cut tickets of 24 out of 27 MLAs, i.e. 89%.

11 candidates declared in the first list

AAP’s first list came on November 21, which had the names of 11 candidates. In this, 6 people from BJP-Congress have been given tickets. These include 3 faces from BJP and 3 from Congress.

Manish Sisodia’s seat changed

AAP has changed the seat of former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia this time. This time he has been fielded from Jangpura seat instead of Patparganj. At the same time, Awadh Ojha, who recently joined the party, has been given ticket from Patparganj. Apart from this, Dinesh Bhardwaj from Narela seat, Surendra Pal Singh from Timarpur and Joginder Solanki from Palam have been given tickets. 

AAP released second list of 20 candidates

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday released the second list of 20 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. In this, tickets of 17 sitting MLAs have been cut. Seats of 3 candidates have been changed. Manish Sisodia has been given Jangipura seat, Rakhi Birlan has been given Madipur seat. Recently joined Awadh Ojha will contest from Patparganj.

When are the elections in Delhi?

Elections for 70 assembly seats in Delhi can be held in the first or second week of February. The current term of the Delhi Assembly is ending on 23 February 2025. Neither the notification nor the schedule for the elections has been issued yet. But AAP has released 2 lists of candidates.

How was the 2020 election in Delhi?

Assembly elections were held in Delhi in February 2020. Aam Aadmi Party won a huge majority in this. AAP won 62 out of 70 seats. 8 seats went to BJP’s account. Congress could not even open its account. Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister. AAP’s vote share was 53.8%. BJP’s vote share was 38.7% and Congress’s vote share was 4.3%.
