Congress Election Campaign

Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, Raj Babbar etc. took charge of the campaign on behalf of the Congress. In the state, senior Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda and his MP son Dipendra Singh Hooda toured the entire state and campaigned. On the other hand, Sirsa MP and the state’s prominent Dalit leader Kumari Selja stayed away from the election campaign most of the time due to not getting importance in ticket distribution. She jumped into the campaign after the intervention of the party high command. On this basis, the BJP tried to portray the Congress as anti-Dalit.

On the other hand, Dushyant Chautala from JJP and Abhay Singh Chautala from INLD campaigned for their respective parties.

Congress has promised seven guarantees. This includes legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP), caste based survey and promise of giving two thousand rupees per month to women if it comes to power. On the other hand, BJP has promised monthly assistance of 2100 rupees for women, two lakh government jobs for the youth and guarantee of government job for the Agniveers of the state.

Congress’ Seven Guarantees, Keypoints:

  1. Legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
  2. Caste-based survey.
  3. ₹2,000 monthly allowance for women.

BJP’s Promises:

  1. ₹2,100 monthly assistance for women.
  2. Two lakh government jobs for the youth.

Which issues did PM Modi raise in Haryana

During the election campaign, Narendra Modi sought votes in the name of steps taken by the central and state governments for the welfare of various sections of the society including farmers, poor, Dalits and backward classes. Prime Minister Modi appealed to give power to BJP again for the rapid development of the state. He attacked the Congress and called it the biggest anti-Dalit party in the country. He claimed that corruption is in the veins of Congress. He called Congress a party of brokers and sons-in-law. BJP leaders alleged that not a single job was given without ‘kharchi and parchi’ in the Congress government in the state.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while targeting the BJP, accused the Modi government of attacking the Constitution. He criticized the government on various issues including unemployment, Agniveer Yojana, welfare of farmers. During the campaign, he also said that the Constitution protects the poor and the people of RSS want to weaken the Constitution. He also accused the BJP of spreading hatred in the country on the basis of religion, language and caste. He said that his party will not let hatred win. He also raised the issues of unemployment and drug menace in Haryana and appealed to the people to vote for the Congress.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge campaigned for only one day in Haryana. During this time he alleged that Modi is an expert in lying. He said that BJP has failed to fulfill the promises made to the voters in the past. Due to Kharge’s poor health, many of his rallies had to be cancelled.

Meaning of parole granted to Ram Rahim

During the Haryana elections, the court granted 20 days parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was serving jail sentence on charges of rape and murder. While granting parole, the court has said that he will not stay in Haryana nor will he post anything about the elections on social media. After coming out of jail, he organized a Naam Charcha for his devotees in Haryana. The opposition parties of the state criticized the granting of parole to Ram Rahim.

How was the result of 2019 election

In the 2019 assembly elections in Haryana, BJP won 40 seats, Congress 31, JJP 10, INLD one, HLP one and independent candidates won seven seats. After the results, BJP formed the government with JJP. But before the Lok Sabha elections held this year, this alliance broke. Along with this, BJP removed Manohar Lal Khattar from the Chief Minister’s chair and made Naib Singh Saini sit on it.
