PM Modi Electoral Equation:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will file his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat today. For this, the names of four proposers have been finalized, which include the names of Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri, Baijnath Patel, Lalchand Kushwaha and Sanjay Sonkar. After these names have come to the fore, political speculations have started. Actually, elections are yet to be held on many Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and OBCs and Dalits have more influence on all these seats. Therefore, this is being considered a big step to woo the caste vote bank.

Table of Contents

  • These castes dominate the 26 seats of Purvanchal
  • OBC dominance in Awadh
  • Here community is First
  • Rajbhar community dominates these seats
  • Nonia community dominates these seats
  • Muslim voters dominate these districts
  • Fifth phase of elections will be held on these seats

These castes dominate the 26 seats of Purvanchal

The Purvanchal region of UP also brings its own politics. A total of 26 Lok Sabha seats come from this region. 32 percent of the population of the entire UP lives in this Purvanchal. It is also considered a backward area of UP and farmers play a decisive role here. But despite being backward, this Purvanchal is also the region that has given five Prime Ministers to the country. Rajbhar, Nishad and Chauhan castes dominate this region. Purvanchal includes districts like Varanasi, Jaunpur, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Sonbhadra, Kushinagar, Deoria, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Azamgarh, Mau, Ghazipur, Ballia, Siddharth Nagar, Chandauli, Ayodhya, Gonda.

OBC dominance in Awadh

After Purvanchal, if any region in UP is considered the biggest then it is Awadh. Experts also call it Mini UP. Victory for any party in this region means that there will be a good performance in Purvanchal as well. The population of Brahmins is around 12% in this region, 7% Thakur and 5% Baniya community also make their presence felt. 43% of the OBC category also lives in Awadh, here too the Yadav community is around 7%. The Kurmi community is also at 7%. A total of 18 Lok Sabha seats are elected from Awadh.

Here community is First

Despite being a backward region, here community is first, party is second and issue is last. Analysts say that in the caste-ridden politics here, the answer to every question is caste. Be it employment, reservation, development or any other issue. Purvanchal is a cocktail of backward, extremely backward, upper caste, Dalit and MY equation. Let’s say it is a laboratory of small and big political parties. Nishad caste is present in Gorakhpur (rural), Sant Kabir Nagar. Whereas in Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Varanasi, sub-castes of the community like Manjhi, Kewat, Bind, Mallah are found. These are people from the fishermen and sailor community.

Rajbhar community dominates these seats

Non-Yadav OBCs and non-Jatav Dalits are also influential in many areas and often decide the election results. These include Rajbhar, Kurmi, Maurya, Chauhan, Pasi, and Nonia. However, the Rajbhar community is only 4% of the total voters in the state. But it has 12% to 23% voters in many districts of Purvanchal, especially Varanasi, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Mau, Ballia.

Nonia community dominates these seats

Similarly, Janwadi Party (Socialist) has influence over Nonia community. They are about 2 percent of UP’s population. They are 10-15% voters in some districts of eastern UP like Chandauli, Mau, Ghazipur and Ballia. Apna Dal has its base among Kurmis. They are 9 percent of Purvanchal’s population and are the second largest OBC after Yadavs. Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) has recently left the ‘INDIA’ alliance. Whereas Apna Dal (Sonelal) is in alliance with NDA.

Muslim voters dominate these districts

Muslims constitute around 20% of the population in UP. Their number is high in Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Ghazipur and Jaunpur. MY equation works in these areas and the claim is of SP and BSP. Ballia is included in the opposition’s list because in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the margin of SP’s defeat to BJP here was very less. There are two such seats in Eastern UP where the Muslim population is in large numbers. 29.06% in Azamgarh and 26.77% in Ghazipur. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP won Ghazipur, Jaunpur and Ghosi seats in Eastern UP.

Fifth phase of elections will be held on these seats

After the fourth phase, the fifth phase of elections will be held on these seats, which will be held on May 20.

On May 20, elections will be held in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambi, Barabanki, Faizabad, Kaiserganj and Gonda in UP.

Apart from this, the sixth phase of elections will be held on May 25. These include Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkarnagar, Shravasti, Dumariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhali Shahar and Bhadohi Lok Sabha seats.

The last phase of elections will be held in Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Bansgaon, Ghosi, Salempur, Ballia, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur and Robertsganj seats.
