Jammu Kashmir Election Result 2024: In the assembly elections held after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the INDIA alliance won 49 seats. The National Conference, which was part of the alliance, got the maximum 42 seats, Congress got 6 and CPI(M) got one seat. 46 seats are needed to form the government.

BJP has won 29 seats. The party has gained 4 seats compared to the last election. However, Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina lost to the NC candidate from Nowshera seat by about 8 thousand votes. He has sent his resignation to the party high command.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP has won 3 seats. In the last election, the party had won 28 seats. Mehbooba’s daughter Iltija Mufti, who was contesting elections for the first time, lost from Srigufwara Bijbehara seat by more than 9 thousand votes.

Aam Aadmi Party has registered victory for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehraj Malik defeated BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana by more than 4500 votes from Doda seat. People’s Conference won one seat. 7 independents won. Aijaz Guru, brother of Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru, got 129 votes from Sopore seat.

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said- Omar Abdullah will be the next CM of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah contested elections on two seats (Budgam and Ganderbal) and defeated PDP candidates on both.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 63.88% voting took place in 3 phases from 18 September to 1 October. In the elections held 10 years ago in 2014, 65% voting took place. This time 1.12% less voting took place. In the exit polls released on 5 October, 5 surveys had predicted an NC-Congress government, while 5 had claimed a hung assembly.

2 regions of Jammu and Kashmir – BJP is dominant in one, NC is dominant in the other

Jammu region: BJP won 29 out of 43 seats, account not opened in Kashmir

Out of 90 seats in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, 43 are in Jammu and 47 in Kashmir. BJP contested all 43 seats in Jammu region and won 29 seats. BJP had fielded 20 candidates on 47 seats in Kashmir region. BJP could not open its account here. There was one hope from Gurez seat. Fakir Mohammad Khan was the BJP candidate from here. Fakir Mohammad was elected as an independent MLA from Gurez 28 years ago in 1996. Then he joined Congress and lost. This time he lost to BJP as well.

Kashmir Region: NC-Congress Alliance

The alliance of National Conference and Congress was already strong in Kashmir. Out of 42 seats of National Conference, more than 35 seats have come from Kashmir region. Congress also won 6 seats from Kashmir division. In 2014, both the parties had won 27 seats. This time the alliance figure crossed the majority. National Conference contested 51 seats and Congress contested 32 seats in this election.

Who are the main candidates who won the election?

Congress candidate Pirzada Mohammad Saeed won the Anantnag assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He defeated PDP’s Mehboob Beg on this seat. Abdul Majid Bhat of National Conference won the election from Anantnag West seat. Mohan Lal of BJP won the election from Akhnoor seat. Nizam ud-Din Bhat of Congress won from Bandipora. Pirzada Farooq Ahmed Shah of National Conference won the election from Gulmarg seat.

With this, Sajjad Shaheen of National Conference won from Banihal seat. Javed Hussain Beg of National Conference won from Baramul seat. Javed Iqbal of National Conference won from Budhal. Mehraj Malik of Aam Aadmi Party won from Doda assembly constituency. Shaktiraj Parihar of BJP won from Doda West. Mubarak Gul of National Conference won from Idgah seat. Sajjad Gani Lone of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference won from Handwara.

However, the results of the first assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 are going to provide great strength to the leader of the National Conference. Voting was held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. The first phase included 24 seats, the second 26 and the third 40 seats.
