Assembly Elections Result 2024: 24 years of Patnaik rule ends in Odisha, BJP wins 78 seats| NDA government is being formed in Andhra, alliance gets 164 seats

Along with the Lok Sabha elections, the results of the assembly elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh were also declared on Tuesday, June 4. The incumbent governments in both the states lost power.

Naveen Patnaik, who was in power for 24 years in Odisha, has lost power. BJP got 78 out of 147 seats and BJD got 51 seats. BJP is forming the government alone for the first time in the state.

  • Along with the counting of Lok Sabha elections, by-elections were held on 25 assembly seats in 12 states.

At the same time, NDA (BJP, TDP and Jana Sena Party) has returned to power in Andhra Pradesh. TDP won 135 out of 175 seats. Current CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP was reduced to 11 seats.

In Andhra, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP)’s Jagan Mohan Reddy won a landslide victory in 151 out of 175 seats in 2019. In the state, the BJP has formed an alliance with Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and actor Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP).

Whereas in Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has been the Chief Minister for 24 years (March 2000). In Odisha, the BJP did not project anyone as the face of the Chief Minister and contested the elections on the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Along with the counting of Lok Sabha elections, by-elections were held on 25 assembly seats in 12 states.

1. Gujarat- 5 Assembly seats (all BJP)
BJP’s Arjun Devabhai Modhwadia won in Porbandar. BJP’s Chiragkumar Arvindbhai Patel won in Khambat seat, BJP’s CJ Chavda in Bijapur, BJP’s Arvindbhai Jinabhai Ladani in Manavadar and BJP’s Dharmendra Singh Vaghela (Bapu) in Waghodiya.

2. Himachal Pradesh – 6 Assembly seats (4 Congress, 2 BJP)
Anuradha Rana of Congress won from Lahaul-Spiti Assembly seat, Captain Ranjit Singh of Congress from Sujanpur seat, Rakesh Kalia of Congress in Gagret, Vivek Sharma Vikku of Congress from Kutlahar and Sudhir Sharma of BJP from Dharamsala, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal of BJP from Barsar.

3. Uttar Pradesh- 4 assembly seats (BJP, SP won 1 seat each, leading on 1 seat each)
BJP’s Arvind Kumar Singh won in Dadrul, SP’s Rakesh Kumar Yadav won in Gainsari. SP’s Vijay Singh is leading in Duddhi and BJP’s OP Srivastava is leading from Lucknow East.

4. Tripura- one seat (BJP)
BJP’s Deepak Majumdar defeated CPI(M)’s Ratan Das in Ramnagar assembly seat of Tripura.

5. Telangana – one seat (Congress)
Congress candidate Shri Ganesh defeated BJP’s Dr Vamsha Tilak TN from Secunderabad Cantt seat in Telangana.

6. Karnataka – one seat (Congress)
Raja Venugopal Naik of Congress won the Shorapur assembly seat in Karnataka.

7. West Bengal- Two seats (TMC won one, leading on one)
Out of the two seats in Bengal, TMC’s Rayat Hussain Sarkar won Bhagabangola. At the same time, TMC’s Sayantika Banerjee is leading in Baranagar.

8. Rajasthan – One seat (Bharat Adivasi Party)
One seat of Rajasthan, Bagidora, was won by Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) candidate Jaikrishna Patel.

9. Bihar- Shiv Prakash Ranjan of CPI(ML) won the Agiaon assembly seat.

10. Haryana- Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini won from Karnal seat.

11. Jharkhand- JMM candidate Kalpana Soren is leading in Gandey seat.

12. Tamil Nadu- Tarahai Cuthbert won from Vilavancode seat.
