Eid-Ul-Adha 2024: When will Bakrid be celebrated in India this year, know the exact date and importance of the festival

Eid-Ul-Adha 2024: Eid has a special significance in Islam. Eid ul Azha or Bakrid festival is celebrated on the tenth day of the 12th month of Zul-Hijjah according to the Islamic calendar. After Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Adha is considered the second biggest festival of Islam. This festival is considered a symbol of love, dedication and faith. According to the tradition of this festival, goat is sacrificed on this day and it is distributed among relatives, friends, neighbors and the needy. On this day, Muslims go to the mosque and pray. 

When is Eid ul Adha? 

In some Asian countries including India, the moon of Dhul Hijja was seen on 7 June, that is why Eid ul Azha will be celebrated on 17 June, Monday in India. Apart from India, Eid will be celebrated on 17 June in Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Brunei and Hong Kong. 

Eid ul Azha will be celebrated on June 16 in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria and Iraq. 

Significance of Eid ul Azha 

The story of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim is associated with Eid ul Azha. It is believed that once Allah thought of testing Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim and came in his dream and told him to give something dear to him to Allah. When Hazrat Ibrahim woke up from this dream, he got up and started thinking. He thought about his most beloved thing and the first thing that came to his mind was his son Ismail. The father decided to hand over his son to Allah. 

When Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim reached for the sacrifice of his son Smile, many devils on the way advised him not to do so but he did not listen to anyone. It was difficult for him to sacrifice his son, so he blindfolded himself and attacked his son with a sword. But, when he removed the blindfold, he saw that his son was safe and in his place was a goat. From then onwards Bakrid started being celebrated and the tradition of sacrificing a goat in the worship of Allah began. 

On the day of Eid, goats are sacrificed. On this day, new clothes are worn, delicacies are prepared, prayers are offered in mosques and there is an atmosphere of happiness everywhere.
