The Indian batsmen who had given a tough time to the Australian pacers in Perth, could not stay on the crease for even a day in Adelaide. As a result, Australia crushed India by 10 wickets in the second test match played with the pink ball. With this victory, Australia has equaled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-1. Not only this, Australia has also taken the top spot in the WTC points table by pushing India to the third position.

Hopes were dashed as soon as Pant was out

In reply to India’s 180 runs, Australia scored 337 runs in the first innings. In this way, they got a lead of 157 runs in the first innings. In reply, India had scored 128 runs for 5 wickets by the end of the second day’s play. India started playing ahead from this score on the third day. When India started batting on the third day, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy were at the crease. Pant was out without adding a single run to his second day’s score and with this India’s hopes of comeback were dashed.

Nitish Reddy averted the innings defeat

After losing the sixth wicket in the form of Pant at the score of 128, India was afraid of losing the innings. Nitish Kumar Reddy saved India from this embarrassing situation. Like the first innings, he scored 42 runs in the second innings as well. He took India to 166 runs. Nitish was caught at third man while playing an upper cut at this score. He was out as the ninth batsman. 9 runs later, as soon as Siraj was out, the Indian team was all out at 175 runs.

4 Key Reasons Behind Team India’s Defeat

Opening failure

It would not be wrong to say that the biggest reason for the Indian team’s defeat in Adelaide’s Pink Ball Test was the failure of the opening pair. In Perth, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul had made a partnership of more than 200 runs in the second innings and India won the match. Here the opening pair failed in both the innings. The account was not opened in the first innings while Yashasvi and Rahul added only 12 runs in the second innings.

Rohit and Virat failed

The two experienced batsmen of the Indian team who had the biggest responsibility of scoring runs failed. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were of no use to the team in difficult times in the Adelaide Test. Rohit was out after scoring 3 runs in the first innings and 6 runs in the second. Virat scored 7 and 11 runs in this match.

Nitish did not get support

Young Nitish Kumar Reddy scored the most runs in both innings of this Test match against Australia. Playing only the second Test of his career, he scored 42 runs in both innings. This player, who was facing the Australian bowlers alone, did not get any support from the other side.

Australia was provoked by sledging

The mistake that Australia made in the last few series against the Indian team due to which they lost, our players did the same. Sledging against the players of the host team proved costly for India. The result of provoking Mitchell Starc in Perth was seen in this match. He took 6 wickets in the first innings and 2 in the second. Travis Head played a brilliant innings of 141 runs.
