Ind vs Ban: The 16-member Indian team has been announced for the opening match of the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting on the 19th of this month. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have returned to the team after a break. As expected, after a long break, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have returned to the team, while young batsman Sarfaraz Khan has also retained his place, but experienced Mohammed Shami has not been able to find a place in the team due to not being fully fit. Shami could not pass the fitness test!
After surgery a few months ago, Indian star pacer Mohammed Shami worked hard on his fitness first at his farm house and then at the NCA. The BCCI had also set a deadline of 19 September for him for the first Test against Bangladesh, but despite all efforts, Shami could not achieve “match fitness”. When he did not play in the Duleep Trophy match, the selectors gave his place in the team to Akash Deep, who took nine wickets.
The responsibility of spin will be on his shoulders
Now that both the Tests will be played on spinner-friendly pitches, the selectors have included four spinners in the team. Overall, the responsibility of the spin attack will be on the shoulders of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel. There was also a discussion on whether an additional spinner should be included in the team or not, considering the situation, but in the end all the selectors went with the decision of including Akash Deep as an additional pacer, considering the performance of the recent Duleep Trophy matches.
