LSG vs MI IPL 2024: Mumbai's 10th Defeat as Lucknow Wins by 18 Runs
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants: Team Hardik could not get victory even in the last league match

LSG vs MI IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs. Rohit Sharma scored 68 runs, but could not take MI close to victory. LSG had scored a huge score of 214 runs while playing first. For Lucknow, Nicholas Pooran played a stormy innings of 75 runs in 29 balls, while KL Rahul also scored 55 runs. When Mumbai came out to chase the target, the team’s start was excellent as there was an opening partnership of 88 runs between Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis. Rohit Sharma scored 68 runs in 38 balls, equipped with 10 fours and 3 sixes. But in the middle overs, Lucknow bowlers dominated so much that MI batsmen could not get out of that pressure and lost the match by 18 runs.

Mumbai lost by 18 runs

Chasing a target of 215 runs, Mumbai had a great start as the team had scored 53 runs without losing any wicket in the powerplay overs. Especially Dewald Brevis could not convert the good start into a big innings, who was dismissed after scoring 23 runs in the ninth over. MI had not yet recovered from the first setback, when Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed after scoring zero runs.

In the 11th over, Rohit Sharma also got caught by Mohsin Khan on a score of 68 runs. Hardik Pandya and Nihal Vadhera also could not stay on the crease for long. In this way, Mumbai lost 5 wickets within just 32 runs.

Where the team had scored 88 runs without losing a wicket, by 15 overs MI’s score had become 125 runs for 5 wickets. The team needed 90 runs to win in the last 5 overs. The situation was such that the team had to score 52 runs in the last 2 overs. Ishan Kishan and Naman Dheer were standing firm at the crease. 18 runs were scored in the 19th over, due to which the team had to score 34 runs in the last 6 balls. Naman Dheer played an innings of 62 runs in 28 balls, but could not save Mumbai from an 18-run defeat.

Lucknow gave Mumbai a target of 215 runs

Lucknow Super Giants, who came to bat first after losing the toss, scored 214 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. In the first 10 overs, Lucknow’s score was 69 runs for 3 wickets. However, after this Nicholas Pooran played an innings of 75 runs with the help of 5 fours and 8 sixes in just 29 balls and pulled the team out of trouble. At the same time KL Rahul scored 55 runs in 41 balls. 3 fours and 3 sixes came off his bat. Lucknow scored 145 runs in the last 10 overs.

Nuwan Tushara and Piyush Chawla took 3-3 wickets for Mumbai Indians.  

Arjun Tendulkar got a chance

Mumbai Indians did not give Arjun Tendulkar a chance to play throughout the season. But he got the opportunity to leave his mark in the last match of the league stage. He got Marcus Stoinis out LBW on the second ball of his spell, but the review showed that the ball was going over the stumps. Still, the first 2 overs were excellent for Arjun, in which he gave only 10 runs. But when he bowled the third over of his spell, Nicholas Pooran hit him for 2 sixes in the first 2 balls. Unfortunately, he could not complete his 4 overs. He had to return to the dressing room due to injury.

Play stopped due to rain

Suddenly rain started in the fourth over, due to which the game has stopped. 3.5 overs were played before the rain came. During this time Mumbai Indians have scored 33 runs without losing any wicket. Rohit Sharma is on 20 runs with the help of one four and two sixes in 13 balls. At the same time, Dewald Brevis is on 9 runs with one six in 10 balls.
The match started again at 10:50 pm.
