Paris Paralympics: India's Badminton Stars Shine, Secure 11th Medal Victory!

Paris Paralympics: The fifth day of Paris Paralympics is proving to be a medal winning one for India. After winning the gold medal in the men’s category in badminton, India got two more medals in the women’s category. Thulasimathi Murugesan won silver and Manisha Ramdas won bronze in the SU5 category.

In men’s badminton, Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal in the SL3 category. Before him, Yogesh Kathuniya won the silver medal in discus throw. In the mixed team event of para archery, the pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi have made it to the semi-finals. Shooter Avni Lekhara won the first gold medal for India in the Paralympic Games. PM Narendra Modi congratulated her over the phone today on Monday, two days later.

India has won 2 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals

in Paralympics so far. Today India can also win medals in badminton, athletics and archery. In the Para badminton mixed SH-6 event, India’s pair of Nitya Shri Sivan and Shivarajan Solaimalai lost the bronze medal match. Now in singles, Nitya Shri Sivan will play the bronze medal match against Rina Merlina of Indonesia.

Nitesh Kumar won the second gold

Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal for India in the individual event of SL3 category of badminton. He won the match that lasted for 3 games against Daniel Bethell of Great Britain. Nitesh won the first game 21-14, Bethell won the second game 18-21.

In the third game, the matter reached a tie of 21-21, here Nitesh took 2 consecutive points and won the gold. Before Nitesh, Avani Lekhara had won gold in shooting. Nitesh plays in the SL3 category. This category includes those athletes who have difficulty in walking. That is, those whose one or both legs are not normal.

Murugesan lost the match in straight games, Got Silver

In the women’s SU5 category, India’s Thulasimati Murugesan faced China’s QX Yang in the final. Yang won the first game 21-17. In the second game too, Yang put pressure and took a lead of 11-5, she won the game 21-10 and won the gold medal. Murugesan had to settle for silver.

On the other hand, India’s Manisha Ramdas won the bronze medal in the SU5 category. She won the bronze medal by defeating Denmark’s Katherine Rosengren in straight games by a margin of 21-12, 21-8. The SU5 category includes those athletes who have hand impairments. That is, those players who have problems in their playing hand or the other hand.

India in the semi-finals of Para Archery

India made it to the semi-finals in the mixed team event of Para Archery. The pair of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar defeated Indonesia in the quarter-finals. India won the match against Indonesia by a margin of 154-143 and entered the semi-finals. Both Rakesh and Sheetal missed out on winning medals in their individual events. Both can secure medals by winning the semi-finals against Iran.

PM Modi told Avni on the phone, “Many congratulations Avni. How are you feeling?” Avni said, “I am feeling very good Sir. I have come to Paralympics for the second time, I was a little nervous, but you told me not to carry the burden of expectations, so I played accordingly.” Modi further said, “Avni, you are constantly doing very well. Many congratulations from my side, you work hard and do better.”

Yogesh won the medal with a throw of 42.22 meters

On the 5th day, Yogesh scored 42.22 meters in his first throw in the final of Men’s Discus Throw F-56. This was his season best throw and with this he won the silver medal. In the F-56 category, the player participates in the field event while sitting due to disability.

Javelin thrower Sumit will play the final

Sumit Antil, who is representing the country for the second time in the Paralympics, will play the final of Javelin F-64 today. Apart from Sumit, Sanjay Sandeep and Sandeep will also participate in this game from India. Sumit won the gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. He created a new world record by throwing the javelin 73.29 meters in the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.

India won 2 medals late night on the fourth day of Paris Paralympics. Nishad Kumar won a silver medal for India in the high jump event at 1 am late night. He secured second place with a season best jump of 2.04 meters. Before him, Preeti Pal won the bronze medal in the women’s 200 meter race.

On Sunday, Suhas Yathiraj and Nitesh Kumar made it to the finals in the badminton men’s individual event from India. Manisha Ramdas and Nitya Srisivan made it to the semi-finals in the women’s individual. Rakesh Kumar lost the bronze medal match in compound archery. Before him, Avani Lekhara and Siddharth Babu were eliminated from the qualification round in the 10 meter mixed air rifle.

2 medals came on the fourth day

1. Nishad Kumar won silver with season best score
India got silver medal in the high jump event of men’s T-47 category. Nishad Kumar secured second position by jumping 2.04 meters. World and Paralympic record holder Roderick Townsend of America won gold. He secured first position with a jump of 2.12 meters. Georgi Margiev of Georgia got bronze medal in the high jump event. His best jump was 2.00 meters.

Nishad won silver in the T-47 category. This includes athletes whose limbs below the elbow are not functional. Similar disabilities or athletes whose both legs do not function equally. India’s Ram Pal finished 7th in the same event, he made a best jump of 1.95 meters.

2. Preeti won the medal with personal best time
Preeti won the bronze medal in the 200 meter women’s T-35 category race. She secured the third position with a personal best time of 30.01 meters. China’s Jia Zhou got the gold and Qian Guo got the silver medal.

Preeti also won a bronze medal in the 100 meter race. She is the first player to win 2 Paralympic medals for India in track events. Preeti plays in the T-35 category, which includes players who have diseases like hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis.

Para shooter Rubina Francis won bronze

Para shooter Rubina Francis won bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 category on the third day, Saturday, 31 August. She scored 211.1 in the final. This was India’s 5th medal in these games.

On Friday, August 30, India won 4 medals. Among them, Avani Lekhara won gold and Mona Agarwal won bronze medal in women’s shooting. While Manish Narwal won silver in 10 meter air pistol shooting in men’s shooting. Preeti Pal won bronze medal in women’s 100 meter T-35 category race.
