AFG vs SA T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-final: South Africa has become the first team to reach the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Afghanistan in the semi-finals. With this victory, South Africa entered a World Cup final for the first time and erased the stigma of chokers on the team. Earlier, the South African team has been eliminated from the semi-finals of ODIs 5 times and T20 World Cups 2 times.

Now the second team to reach the final will be decided at 8 pm when the Indian and England teams will face each other at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The chances of the match taking place have also increased because the chances of rain have decreased to 40%.

Afghanistan won the toss at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad and batted first and were all out for 56 runs. South Africa achieved this target by losing 1 wicket. Reeza Hendricks scored 29 runs. Marco Jansen, who took 3 wickets in 3 overs, became the man of the match.

AFG Innings Highlights: 

Afghanistan’s condition worsened against South Africa in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Batting first in the match, Afghanistan’s team was all out for 56 runs in 11.5 overs by South African bowlers. During this, Marco Jansen and Tabrez Shamsi took the maximum 3-3 wickets for Africa. Azmatullah Umarzai scored the highest 10 runs for Afghanistan. Umarzai was the only batsman who crossed the double-digit mark for the team. 

In the match being played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat, which did not prove right for them at all. The African bowlers did not let the Afghan batsmen stay on the fresh wicket. From the very beginning, the African bowlers continued to take wickets.

Afghanistan, who came out to bat first, suffered the first blow in the form of star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the last ball of the first over, who returned to the pavilion without opening his account. Then on the third ball of the third over, the team lost the second wicket in the form of Gulbadin Naib, who returned to the pavilion after scoring 9 runs with the help of 2 fours in 8 balls. 

Then Afghanistan lost two wickets in the fourth over. Kagisa Rabada, who came to bowl the fourth over of the innings for Africa, bowled Ibrahim Zadran (02) on the first ball and then bowled Mohammad Nabi (00) on the fourth ball. Then the team suffered the fifth blow in the form of Nangealiya Kharote (00) on the last ball of the fifth over.

After this, the team lost the sixth wicket on the third ball of the seventh over in the form of Azmatullah Umarzai, who scored 10 runs in 12 balls with the help of 2 fours. Then on the third ball of the 10th over, Karim Janat returned to the pavilion after scoring 8 runs in 13 balls with the help of 1 four. After this, Noor Ahmed was out without opening the account on the 5th ball of the same over. Then captain Rashid Khan, who was looking in good rhythm, returned to the pavilion on the second ball of the 11th over. Rashid scored 8 runs in 8 balls with the help of 2 fours. After this, the team lost the last i.e. 10th wicket in the form of Naveen Ul Haq, who could score only 2 runs in 8 balls.

For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Tabrez Shamsi took the maximum 3-3 wickets. During this Jansen conceded 16 runs in 3 overs and Shamsi conceded only 6 runs in 1.5 overs. Apart from this, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Norkia took 2-2 wickets each.

South Africa’s journey in T20 World Cup 2024

In the first round of the T20 World Cup, South Africa was placed in Group D and achieved the top position by winning all four league matches. This team defeated Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal. The team’s winning streak continued in the Super 8 as well. The team topped this round as well by defeating England, West Indies and America.

Afghanistan’s journey in T20 World Cup 2024

The T20 World Cup has been like a dream so far for Afghanistan. The team of Group C won three out of four matches. The Afghan team defeated New Zealand, Uganda and New Papua Guinea. After losing to India in the Super 8, they created a big upset by defeating Australia and then secured a place in the semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh.
