Cyclone Dana Update: Cyclone Dana, which has risen in the Bay of Bengal, is going to hit the coast of Odisha late on Thursday night, October 24. After this, this cyclone can also hit the coast of West Bengal. Winds are currently blowing at a speed of 70kmph in coastal areas (Dhamra). According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Center, Cyclone Dana will land in Odisha near Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port. The entire process of landfall will last for about 5 hours. During this time, the wind will blow at a speed of 120 km per hour. Heavy rain is also expected. Meanwhile, the Odisha government has also issued district-wise helpline numbers.

How is a cyclone named?
Actually, if the speed of a storm is more than 62 km per hour, then it is given a special name. If the stormy wind reaches 137 km per hour or crosses this range, then it is called a cyclone. Talking about ‘Dana’, this is a name given by Saudi Arabia. In Arabic, it means generosity.
Where will cyclone ‘Dana’ affect Odisha?
Cyclone ‘Dana’ will affect many districts of Odisha including Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Puri, Keonjhar. At some places, there may be more than 30 cm i.e. 12 inches (one foot) of rain. At the same time, there is a possibility of wind blowing at a speed of 120 km per hour. In the rest of the coastal areas, there is a possibility of up to 20 cm of rain.
Cyclone Dana: What is the Odisha government’s preparation to deal with the cyclone?
Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi held a high-level meeting on Wednesday to deal with cyclone ‘Dana’. The state government has deployed 288 teams of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Relief Force (ODRF) and fire brigade. Schools and colleges in 14 districts affected by the cyclone will remain closed till October 25.
Odisha High Court along with all tourism parks in these districts have also been closed till October 25. At the same time, the leaves of government employees have been cancelled. 10 lakh people have been shifted in 14 districts of Odisha. All temporary tents have been removed in the Jagannath temple complex in Puri. Sand bags have been placed on asbestos roofs. Konark Sun Temple has been closed for two days.
Cyclone Dana: 300 flights cancelled at two airports, 552 trains cancelled
In view of cyclone ‘Dana’, 300 flights will be cancelled at Bhubaneshwar and Kolkata airports from 5 pm on Thursday to 9 am on Friday 25 October. A total of 552 trains have been cancelled. South East Railway has cancelled 150 trains, East Coast Railway 198 trains, Eastern Railway 190 trains and South East Central Railway has cancelled 14 trains.

What will be the effect of ‘Dana’ in West Bengal?
Due to cyclone ‘Dana’, very heavy rains are expected in East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Heavy rains may occur in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram. During this time, the wind will blow at a speed of 100 to 120 kilometers.
How many people have been evacuated so far?
The West Bengal government has evacuated 1,59,837 people from the affected areas so far in view of the threat of cyclone Dana. Out of these, 83,537 people have been shifted to relief camps. Schools have been closed from 23 to 26 October in 8 districts including Kolkata. 85 relief teams have been deployed in the state.

Cyclone ‘Dana’ is likely to hit West Bengal and Odisha on Thursday night and Friday morning. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will remain in her office in Navanna (Secretariat) throughout Thursday night and will keep an eye on the situation. Helpline number (033) 22143526 will remain operational 24 hours a day in Navanna.
In which other states will the effect of cyclone ‘Dana’ be seen?
– Heavy rains and winds of 30 to 50 kmph are expected in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The state government has deployed 9 teams of NDRF.
-There may be rain in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara of Jharkhand. 9 teams of NDRF have been deployed here too.
-Yellow alert has been issued for 8 districts of Chhattisgarh. Winds can blow at a speed of 40 km per hour here from 25 to 27.
Its effect will be visible in Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Nawada, Gaya, Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj of Bihar.
-The effect of cyclone ‘Dana’ can be seen in some areas of Tamil Nadu. Along with this, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in some states of eastern India.
