Delhi Weather Update: Cold wave continues to wreak havoc in the country’s capital Delhi. People of Delhi NCR are suffering due to continuous decrease in maximum day temperature for the last few days. The maximum temperature has reached 16 degrees with a record drop. While the minimum temperature is around 11 degrees.
There is no sign of reduction in the cold wave for the next five days. In view of the worsening weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Delhi. Also, people have been appealed to come out of the house only when necessary.Â
It is clear from the orange alert of IMD that the weather of Delhi NCR has worsened. In such a situation, you not only have to keep an eye on yourself, but you should also avoid going out of the house. Leave the house only if it is necessary. Extra caution should be taken in such situations. Orange alert in winter is considered a sign of further deepening of cold wave and dense fog.Â
Don’t expect relief till January 4
According to the India Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours the maximum temperature recorded in Delhi was 15.9 degrees, which is five degrees less than normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 11.7 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees more than normal.
According to IMD, moderate to dense fog is observed in various parts of North India including Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted no relief till January 4, 2024.
Fog affects 50 air flights
According to the Meteorological Department, visibility was 900 meters in Palam till 9 am on Sunday, while 500 meters was recorded in Safdarjung. Earlier at 8 am the lowest visibility recorded in Palam was 700 meters. Due to dense fog, vigilance has been increased in railway operations, which has affected the departure and arrival time of trains.
Flight schedules are also being affected, with many flights being delayed and some possibly being cancelled. Till 8 am, around 50 flights have been delayed due to dense fog. This includes disruptions in international and domestic departures and arrivals. Visibility was recorded at 800 meters at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Due to the challenge posed by fog for the passengers, many trains coming to Delhi region are running late, due to which there is disappointment among the passengers. 23 trains are behind their scheduled arrival times, and the extent of delays varies across routes.
AQI is still very bad
The PM 2.5 level at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport T3 was 382 and the PM10 level was 306, both ‘very poor’. Passengers are urged to exercise caution due to reduced visibility due to dense fog during the early morning hours, and are urged to stay updated about the real-time schedule and plan their journey accordingly.
