Heatwave Alert: The country is facing severe heat along with heatwave. Heatwave has gripped the entire North India. In the afternoon, one starts feeling suffocated due to rising temperature and heatwave. The mercury is breaking its own record every day. Tuesday was recorded as the hottest day of the season in the entire country. The temperature in Delhi reached 47.8 degrees on Tuesday. The temperature of the country’s capital has been recorded so high after the year 2000. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heatwave in Delhi for the next 5 days. Along with Delhi, the average maximum temperature in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan crossed 45 degrees on Monday. There is a heatwave alert in these states as well. While there are chances of rain in some parts of Kerala.

IMD gives weather update for the next 5 days

According to the Meteorological Department, similar heat will prevail in Delhi for the next five days i.e. from 22nd to 26th May. There is a heatwave alert in many areas. On 22nd May, there is a heatwave alert in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha. While there will be heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Nicobar, West Bengal and Sikkim. There will be humid heat in Goa, hot nights are likely in Rajasthan. 

On May 23, strong winds and lightning are expected in Bihar, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal. On the other hand, the temperature will rise at night in the eastern areas of Rajasthan and heatwave is also expected. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha.

On 24 May, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to experience intense heat at night. During this time, heatwave will prevail in Delhi and Punjab. Winds are also predicted to blow at a speed of 40 kmph in the cities near the seacoasts in Kerala and West Bengal. At the same time, heavy rains are expected in West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep. There is an alert of severe heat and heatwave in Delhi on 25 and 26 May. The temperature will cross 44 in some parts of UP including Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra. There is also an alert of heatwave.

People in Delhi are suffering from heat

The temperature in Delhi has been increasing continuously in recent days. On Sunday, the maximum temperature of the capital was recorded at 44.4 degrees Celsius. The temperature on Saturday was 43.6 degrees Celsius, while on Friday it was 42.5 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the temperature in Delhi crossed 47.4 degrees.

On Monday, the maximum temperature in Delhi’s Najafgarh was recorded at 47.4 degrees Celsius. A day earlier, the temperature in South West Delhi area was recorded at 47.8 degrees Celsius, which was the highest temperature in the country this season. Amidst the scorching heat, massive fires broke out in three places in Delhi – Kirti Nagar, Bawana and Kalkaji. At two places, a factory caught fire and at the third place, a banquet hall caught fire. 

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education has asked those schools, which were running classes despite summer vacations, to close classes with immediate effect till June 30. This heat also affected electricity, as the demand for electricity reached a record level of 7,557 MW. Due to the increasing heat, schools have been closed in Delhi and Punjab including Ghaziabad and Noida.

Rajasthan is also heating up, Jhunjhunu’s Pilani is the hottest

Storms have been occurring repeatedly in the last three days in many districts including Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur. It is also raining at some places, but the heat wave in the state has not abated. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was still recorded above 46 degree Celsius in some districts of the state. The highest temperature of 46.6 degree Celsius was recorded in Pilani of Jhunjhunu district. 46.3 degree Celsius was also recorded in Ganganagar and 46.1 degree Celsius in Barmer. Due to dry weather, the weather department has predicted a further rise in temperature in the coming days.

Senior meteorologist Dr Naresh Kumar says, “Just like Delhi, Rajasthan is also burning hot. There is no scope of relief here even in the next week. The mercury has reached 45 to 46 degrees in 18 to 19 districts, while in many places it is expected to reach 48 degrees in the next few days.”

Jaipur Meteorological Department Director Radheshyam Sharma says, “In the areas where the temperature is being recorded at 46 and 47 degrees Celsius, the temperature is likely to reach 48 degrees on 22 and 23 May. During this time, there will be hot nights in Rajasthan. That means hot winds will blow even at night.”

Ratlam was the hottest in Madhya Pradesh

On Tuesday, the mercury crossed 45 degrees in many districts of Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Ratlam was the hottest. Here the temperature reached 45.6 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, Bhopal and Ujjain were the hottest cities of the season. The mercury in Bhopal reached 43.3 degrees Celsius. Whereas, 44.1 degrees were recorded in Ujjain.

Heatwave alert in UP

The Meteorological Department has issued rain alert in 17 cities of UP and heatwave alert in 35 cities. Pre-monsoon activity has started in the state. During this time, light drizzle occurred in Balrampur, Basti, Bulandshahr, Kushinagar and Kanpur. Agra remained the hottest city in the state for the second consecutive day on Monday. The maximum temperature recorded here was 47.7 degrees.

The Meteorological Department has released a list of the 10 hottest

places in the country. The maximum temperature of 47.8 degrees was recorded in Sirsa. This is the highest in the country. After this, the maximum temperature recorded in the list is Pilani (Rajasthan) 47.2, Bhatinda Airport (Punjab) 46.6, Agra (Uttar Pradesh) 46.6, Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) 45.6, Surendra Nagar (Gujarat) 45.4, Akola (Maharashtra) 44, Durg (Chhattisgarh) 43.6, Una (Himachal Pradesh) 42.4 and Nuapada (Odisha) with 42.2 degrees. 

While north-western India is battling severe heat, rain is expected in many areas of South India. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till May 23. At the same time, a warning of heavy rain has been issued at some places in Kerala on May 22 and 23. 

Favourable conditions are developing for further advance of Monsoon. Favourable conditions are developing for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some parts of Southeast Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maldives, Comorin area, South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Nicobar Islands and some parts of Andaman Sea during next two days.

Chances of rain in Kerala

While North India is in the grip of heat, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in 4 districts of Kerala along with Thiruvananthapuram and South Tamil Nadu coasts. According to weather forecast agency Skymet, the capital Thiruvananthapuram has received more than 200 mm of rain in the last 48 hours. Kozhikode has recorded 116 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Apart from heavy rain, winds are also expected to blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km.

Chances of rain in Bihar

The Meteorological Department in Bihar on Wednesday issued an orange alert for rain and strong winds in 19 districts. On Tuesday morning, it rained in Ara, Jamui, Jehanabad, Nawada, Nalanda and Buxar. People are likely to get more relief from the heat after May 25.
