IMD Weather Alert: Deadly Heat Wave Continues in North India; Latest Monsoon Update

IMD Weather Alert: The havoc of extreme heat and heatwave in the country is not stopping. The scorching heat is now becoming life-threatening. However, after the news of the arrival of monsoon in Kerala, the common people are definitely hoping that they will get relief from the scorching heat and heatwave very soon. However, the India Meteorological Department said on Sunday that there is a possibility of heat wave in most parts of the country on June 3. However, the matter of relief is that the maximum temperature has decreased by 3 to 4 degrees in some parts of the country. At the same time, after the arrival of monsoon in Kerala, it has advanced in the northeastern areas of the country.

The weather bulletin said, “On June 3, heat wave conditions are likely in different parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.” However, it is a matter of relief that on Sunday, a slight decrease in maximum temperature was recorded in some areas of the country.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, today the maximum temperature has dropped by 3-4 degrees Celsius in some parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius has been recorded in some parts of interior Odisha, Vidarbha, Punjab and 1-2 degrees Celsius in some parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, western Madhya Pradesh and adjoining eastern Rajasthan.

Maximum temperatures between 43-45 degree Celsius have been recorded in parts of northern Rajasthan, southern Haryana, Delhi, northern Madhya Pradesh and south-east Madhya Pradesh. Temperatures between 41-43 degree Celsius have been recorded in many parts of Punjab, remaining parts of Haryana, Delhi, southern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh.

On the other hand, Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh was the hottest city in the country today. The maximum temperature recorded here was 46.2 degrees. After this, 45.4 degrees were recorded in Ganganagar in Rajasthan, 45.4 in Sirsa in Haryana, 45.1 in Prithvipur in Madhya Pradesh, 45 in Yavatmal, 43.8 in Lodhi Road in Delhi, 43.5 in Amritsar, 43 in Raipur in Chhattisgarh and 42.5 degrees in Titlagarh in Odisha. 

PM Modi’s meeting on heat and monsoon 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the heat situation in the country and preparations for the onset of monsoon. PM Modi was told that according to the IMD forecast, heatwave is likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. 

The Prime Minister’s Office said that this year, the monsoon is likely to be normal to above normal over most parts of the country and below normal over some parts of peninsular India. 

The PM also directed, “Fire audit and electrical safety audit of hospitals and other public places should be done regularly.”

The Prime Minister was briefed on the utility of “Van Agni” portal in timely identification and management of forest fires. 

As severe heat grips many parts of the country on Saturday, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed at least 56 deaths due to heatstroke in several states, sources said. 

Monsoon advances in some parts of Northeast India 

The Indian Meteorological Department said that the southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of Northeast India after hitting the coast of Kerala on Thursday. This year the monsoon has started two days earlier. The earliest date of arrival of monsoon is June 1. 

According to satellite images, light to moderate rains with isolated heavy falls along with moderate to severe thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (sometimes 40-60 kmph) are likely over Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands. 

Light to moderate rain with moderate thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over West Jharkhand, Southwest West Bengal, North Rajasthan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, West and Central Assam, Meghalaya, East Manipur, South Mizoram and Nicobar Islands. 

There has been extensive pre-monsoon rainfall in Kerala this year.
