Meteorological Department issued red alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for Mumbai and its neighboring districts on Wednesday evening and has forecast “extremely heavy rainfall”. Rain has been continuing in many parts of the city since afternoon. A municipal corporation official said that the IMD has changed the ‘orange alert’ to ‘red alert’ for the country’s financial capital, which has been issued till 8.30 am on Thursday.

In the latest warning issued at 5.30 pm, the IMD has predicted “extremely heavy rainfall and thundershowers accompanied with lightning and strong winds at isolated places” in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. The island city of Mumbai has been receiving heavy rains since the evening, while many suburban areas have been receiving rainfall since afternoon. Heavy rains in Mulund and its surrounding areas led to inundation of low-lying areas. Officials said that road traffic slowed down due to waterlogging and poor visibility due to heavy rains. Suburban rail services, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, are also running late due to rain.

Just a day before PM Narendra Modi’s visit, Maharashtra is flooded! 3 people died in Thane

Just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Maharashtra visit, rains wreaked havoc on the state. Meanwhile, three people died in separate incidents of lightning in Thane in 24 hours. Officials told news agency PTI that the lightning incidents took place near Shirgaon and Kalyan in Murbad taluka on Tuesday afternoon. According to a District Disaster Control Room official, Parshu Pawar (42) died after lightning struck his house in Shirgaon, while a man and a woman working in a mine in Kamba in Kalyan taluka died after being struck by lightning. Police have registered a case of accidental death.

PM Narendra Modi will be on Maharashtra tour on 26 September

In view of the Assembly elections 2024 in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to the state on Thursday. During this time, he will dedicate various projects worth about Rs 20,900 crore to the nation. Along with this, the PM will also dedicate PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to the country. He will also launch petroleum and natural gas sector initiatives worth Rs 10,400 crore. The PM’s program also includes inaugurating the Solapur airport and laying the foundation stone of the Bidkin Industrial Area.

How will the weather be in Maharashtra tomorrow?

The weather department has issued a red alert only for Palghar in Maharashtra, while an orange alert has been issued for Dhule, Pune, Nashik, Raigad, Thane and Mumbai. There is a yellow and green alert for the rest of the state. If the weather remains bad in the state tomorrow as well, then it may affect PM Modi’s visit and program.

There will be holiday in schools and colleges in Mumbai

Schools and colleges will remain closed on Thursday amid a ‘red alert’ of heavy rains in Mumbai and its suburbs. School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar has declared a holiday due to heavy rains in Mumbai. An official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) told news agency PTI that the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘red alert’ forecasting extremely heavy rains till 8.30 am on Thursday, due to which the holiday has been declared as a precautionary measure.
