IMD Weather Update:Â The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding heatwave. The IMD said on Saturday (April 6) that heatwave may trouble people in some parts of Odisha, areas around the Ganges in West Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand on April 6 as well as on April 7. The Meteorological Department has also said that the heat will increase further in eastern India.
However, the Meteorological Department has also predicted hailstorms at different places in Odisha on Sunday (7 April). Apart from this, hailstorms are expected in eastern Madhya Pradesh from 7 to 10 April, in Vidarbha from 7 to 10 April, in Chhattisgarh and Marathwada from 7 to 8 April.
2-4 °C above normal temperature
On April 6, the maximum temperature in most parts of Vidarbha and Odisha was between 40-43 degrees Celsius. If we talk about Rayalseema, then heat has started showing its effect in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, northern interior Karnataka, Telangana and parts of Tamil Nadu and isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh and south-west Madhya Pradesh. The minimum temperature in these places is 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal. The same situation is in isolated places of Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Temperature may increase in these states
According to IMD, by the end of the coming week, the mercury may rise further at night in different parts of North Karnataka, Telangana, East Madhya Pradesh, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Odisha. From 6 to 10 April, heat may also increase in coastal areas of Kerala, Mahe, Saurashtra and Kutch. Apart from this, mercury is expected to rise in Odisha, West Bengal, coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa during 7 to 10 April at the end of the week.
What is a heatwave?
Heatwave conditions are considered when the maximum temperature is more than 40°C in plain areas, more than 37°C in coastal areas, more than 30°C in hilly areas. If such conditions persist for two days, then heatwave is declared on the next day.
