Weather Update: Heatwave conditions prevailed in Delhi-NCR for the second consecutive day on Saturday. The highest temperature was recorded in Safdarjung in the capital. The maximum temperature here was 43.7 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ in the entire region.

A red alert has also been issued for Sunday (May 19). Apart from this, an orange alert has been announced from Monday to Wednesday. During this time, the maximum temperature in some parts of the city can remain between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay indoors. 

Mungeshpur had the highest temperature

Mungeshpur in North West Delhi was the hottest place in the capital with 46.8 degrees Celsius. After this, Najafgarh had the highest temperature. The temperature here was recorded at 46.7 degrees Celsius.

Heat has also caused problems in Rajasthan

The Meteorological Department said that heatwave conditions prevail across North India. The maximum temperature was recorded at 46.9 degrees Celsius in Barmer, Rajasthan. According to the department, most parts of the state have been experiencing severe heat for the last several days and this phase will continue for the next one week. Apart from Barmer, the maximum temperature was recorded at 46.4 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, 46.3 degrees Celsius in Pilani (Jhunjhunu), 46.2 degrees Celsius in Jalore, Jaisalmer, Karauli and 45.5 degrees Celsius in Kota, Churu and Bikaner.

Temperature increased in Chandigarh 

Due to hot winds blowing in Haryana and Punjab, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh reached 44.5 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature here was six degrees more than the normal temperature. 

‘No hope of relief’

IMD said, ‘The effect of heatwave is being continuously seen in Delhi-NCR. Dry western winds are blowing from Rajasthan. Due to clear skies, the heat is increasing rapidly. The weather will remain the same till Wednesday. At present, there is no hope of immediate relief.’

Orange Alert for Assam and Meghalaya

Meghalaya is very likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) at isolated places on May 19 and 20, 2024.

Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive heavy rainfall

Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) at isolated places on May 22 and extremely heavy rainfall (more than 204.5 mm) at isolated places on May 21, 2024.
