IMD Weather Update: The effect of snowfall in the hilly states of the country is directly visible in the plains. A drop in temperature has been recorded in areas like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab. It seems that the departing winter in North India is going to continue for now. The Meteorological Department is also predicting the possibility of rain in some states of North-East India. The sky is going to be cloudy in Delhi on Wednesday (6 March). 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of rain and snowfall till March 7 in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Apart from this, the Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather in most parts of the country during the next four days. The IMD also said in its weather bulletin that hot and humid weather is likely over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the two days.

In which states will there be snowfall? 

1. IMD forecasts light to moderate rain/snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh during March 5-7, with sporadic rain/snow in Uttarakhand.
2. Uttarakhand may experience very light rain in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts, while Northeast India expects scattered light to moderate rain over the next six days.
3. Snowfall is predicted in Arunachal Pradesh during the upcoming period, as per the IMD’s weather update.

According to IMD, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain/snowfall at different places in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh during March 5-7. During this period, sporadic rain or snowfall may also be seen in Uttarakhand. 

Regarding Uttarakhand, IMD said that very light rain may be seen at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Scattered light to moderate rain has been predicted in Northeast India during the next six days, snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh.

Where will the clouds rain?

1. Himachal Pradesh issues yellow alert for storm with lightning, snowfall expected in high hilly areas including Lahaul-Spiti and Manali.
2. IMD forecasts sporadic rain in Odisha (5-8 March), Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim (7-9 March), and possible rain in Assam-Meghalaya due to cyclonic circulation.
3. Cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha leads to rain alerts, with snowfall anticipated in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti and Manali regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued regarding storm with lightning at different places in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday. Snowfall is going to be seen in the high hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh. There may be snowfall in areas like Lahaul-Spiti, Manali. 

According to IMD, cyclonic circulation is present over interior Odisha and surrounding area at lower tropospheric level. Due to this, there is a possibility of sporadic rain in Odisha during 5-8 March and in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 7-9 March. It may rain in Assam-Meghalaya also.

How will the weather be in Delhi? 

• Delhi-NCR expects cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 11°C; moderate air quality recorded at 117 by CPCB.
• Recent rain in Delhi has significantly lowered temperatures, with this weather pattern expected to persist for several more days.

The sky is going to be cloudy in Delhi-NCR. The maximum and minimum temperature is going to be between 25 degree Celsius to 11 degree Celsius. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality has been recorded at 117, which is at moderate level. Due to the rain in Delhi in the last few days, the temperature has come down considerably. It is going to remain like this for some more days to come.

• Skymet Weather reports Western Disturbance over mountains to continue for two days, leading to cloud movement towards Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan with a slight temperature drop.
• Expect temperature increase in coming days with possibility of winter rains returning next week, despite limited rain from current cloud cover.

According to the report of Skymet Weather, Western Disturbance is being seen over the mountains, which is likely to remain like this for two more days. Due to this, clouds will start moving towards Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Even though we may not see much rain due to these clouds, there will definitely be a slight drop in the temperature. The temperature will start increasing again in the coming few days. Winter rains may return once again next week.
